Man these kids in chat really showing how young they are. Okay, everyone in chat born in 1999 and up, we get it they don't have sleeves. That's how people played back then, it was intentional and most cards weren't worth that much these revised duals were like $10. I'm 35 and I even remember how it used to be, sad to think it was half a life time ago >.>

? You miss the point. It’s crazy to see people using what is NOW $300+ cards unsleved BECUASE they where 10$ then. No one thinks they where that expensive back then lmao

@@AIMLESS-NAMELESS None of these pros were thinking about the value of these cards 10 years later, I remember when I was in middle of college in '04-'05 after mtg was a decade old if it would even exist in another 10 years, and actually I'm pleasantly happy it is I almost thought between YugiOh and online gaming like Hearthstone it would've died by now but it just shows...

Players could use sleeves, but until around 2001, sleeves were not allowed during Top X games.

No, sleeves were not banned. Players were asked to un-sleeve for recorded games. This is 1999, not 1996.

@@ladiesman2048 Correct. They did not allow sleeves at early pro tours. I can imagine several reasons for that rule.

People didn't know the cards would be worth so much. Think about Morphing...it was The Top creature card @$10 in it's day.. Today it would be laughable bc of the power level and planes walkers.

@@brickchains1 I played in this PT and I used sleeves. It was only t8 that wasn't allowed to use sleeves because they reflected the camera lights and you couldnt see the cards.

+Trevor Stevens - Card sleeves as we know them today didn't really exist until well after the year 2000. In the '90s, players did use penny sleeves (clear, flimsy, plastic sleeves like KMC Perfect Fits), but apparently they weren't very popular as they made some judges suspicious. Lack of size uniformity in the making of the sleeves meant that some cards could be longer or shorter. The first UltraPro "deck protectors" came out in 1995-96 and Olle Råde used them in his 1996 tourney game against Mark Justice. You can watch this on KZbin. Still, out of all the old videos I've watched, he is the only one I've seen who uses them. Many average players didn't even know penny sleeves existed. I remember playing unsleeved beta cards on the floor at school *cringe*.

I was there and my memory may be wrong but I think you could use sleeves during the tournament but the top 8 players couldn't. to make sure there was not sleeve marking. I remember people saying you got to make sure your backs are very good in case you got into the top 8 and had to show them.
