I love watching Gerry play. Every match there's so much joy and laughter and it's so nice to see in incredible serious and stressful tournaments

I'm really enjoying this standard play, yeah there is a lot of mono red, but I really like the quirky decks coming out thanks to origins.

Sam could've delt 3 more points in game 2 when he just searing blood first, gerry is not gonna just sacrifice the whisperwood for oneburn spell, so when sam then casts lighting strike the searing blood trigger still happens

In response he can sac. It

Anthony Good Yes, but then Sam still has Lightning Strike in his hand, so he can deal 3 more points anyways. Sloppy play.

ElMikkino was a sloppy play for sure!! Im just saying he can sac. The whisperwood in response.

Anthony Good If Sam casts searing blood by itself first, Gerry either sacs it in response to that (to fizzle the 3 from searing blood), or searing blood resolves. Either way, Gerry would be taking 3 (from blood resolving our from the lightning strike)

Anthony Good Yeah, he could have kept the lightning strike.

Those monored decks should play 8 fetches to thin their library better
@Furavara

Pask004 The life you would pay is more valuable then the thinning in matchups were the life get's close, like the mirror or against blue-red-scissors. Cause of your range with the burnspells, even against green decks the 1-3 points of live can make a huge difference. In a matchup against blue-black control, it might be better to have fetches, but that's a to niche case to go with it.

Pask004 This is an awful reason to play fetches and is never correct. You play fetches in some burn decks in other formats traditionally to fuel cards like Grim Lavamancer. At times you will need to draw a second or third land and don't want to thin your deck, so forcing yourself to is limiting (and you would need to add more lands to your deck to get the optimal number to compensate for this, so it eliminates the point of thinning anyways since you can't play as many spells). In addition what ziebell already said is the most important point, the 1 point of lifeloss is sometimes very relevant and the advantage you gain from thinning is almost mathematically irrelevant, especially in comparison to the value of 1 life.

"You should know you play mono red": I don't think you play and tested quite on their level, sorry. Those are some of the best players in the world coming together to figure out the format.

Omar Alawadhi playing fetches thins the deck out very little. theres someone online, some mathematician/magic player guy, came up with that in a mono colored deck, running all 8 fetches, your card advantage comes out to be just over 1 card, so in other words, no where near enough to matter or notice in games. yes i kno in theory, and in your head, its a great idea and seems like it does a ton to thin the deck, but in reality it doesnt
