For our first batch of quarterfinals we have fan-favorite and No. 2-ranked Reid Duke playing Abzan vs. Ken Yukuhiro's wild ride known as B/R Hollow One.
Meanwhile, we'll also be peering in on Luis Salvatto's Lantern Control deck as it faces down Jean-Emmanuel Depraz and his Traverse the Ulvenwald-powered four-color deck.

Man... I really think I would have valued that spell bomb over the cage being cast on turn 1 from Duke's side and then following it up with a cage afterwards because it would take an extra turn for the graveyard creeps like phoenix to start coming out anyway.. honestly I felt like the only way he was going to lose was to a big delve creature if he plays a fetch land, which his opponent top decked @_@.. Especially given the amount of cards in the graveyard already.. Big fish Gurmag turn 2 was the only thing beating Reid's hand and in fact ends up going all the way /costing him the match. Looking at his facial expression right after, you can see the "feels bad" moment as Reid realizes the decision he made was incorrect in hindsight. =/ Drawing those few extra lands off the top when Reid needed some sort of removal spell for the fish didn't help either..

Reid should not have tried to discard knowing his opponents deck list and paying the fetch land cost and the cost of his pain dual land.

Hollow one is the stupidest deck i've ever seen. Discard at random, put two 4/4 on turn one for free.. Where is the fun in this ? This going to be banned. All decks who can win turn 2 must be banned.

its a good deck, so what? infect can win on turn two and its been in the format forever. As long as it doesn't consistently win turn 2 or 3 it wont get banned

Chris Iver Ok i explain myself. You're on your turn 0. No lands. Your oppenent have 2 hollow one and maybe a gurmag angler turn 2. What you can do? Against infect, one removal is ok. But here you have to survive or concede if this happen, even you have pulse or path in hand. that's not fair. The only good card t1 is ancient grudge but not everybody play GR lol Maybe i'm wrong but i find hollow one ridiculous.

Abusus75 I've seen plenty of videos of hollow one decks, and it certainly can get some crazy nut draws. But that rarely happens. And a removal spell or two and a creature can stop them pretty fast, and then it turns into a weird grindy game. I can't see it becoming a problem big enough to be banned any time soon.

I want to believe you. I don't like when i concede turn 2 because my oppenent did something crazy. That's not magic for me.
