Even i think so. cause if given the 6 probability in total in first throw of dice then it also includes 1. And if 1 is considered then the sum can never be 8. And it is like( considering previous questions of shirts, 6 black, 4 red , 2 white and 3 blue), if the question says, black shirt is never picked so what is the probability of choosing blue shirt? so here probability would be 3/9. Because question already sates that black shirt is never picked so no of total probability decreases. Likewise, in this question, the sum is 8, so it automatically eradicates the possibility of coming 1 is removed. So left total possibility is 5 in total. So answer is 1/5. Again, if it asked in both the throw the probability of coming 4 and 4 for summing up 8 then it would be only (1/5) * (1/5) = 1/25 . Hope it helps. My own calculation, verify it first. Solution :-A dice has 6 faces So there are 6 possible outcomes Dice is rolled once and then again So total possibilities = 6 × 6 = 36 The sum should be 8 of the 2 throws So which combination of numbers from 1 to 6 will yield us a sum of 8 They are - (2, 6); (6, 2); (3, 5); (5, 3); (4, 4); So there are total 5 possibilities where addition is 8. But only 1 possibility where first throw of dice is 4. So, Probability for first throw to be 4 and sum to be 8 = 1/36.

On question 10, I feel it is more natural to read it as a conditional probability question, i.e. P(first throw was 4 | sum of two throws is 8), which I'd think is 1/5 (5 possibilities to have sum equal to 8, out of which 1 has 4 as first throw). The author now answers the question 'what is the probability of throwing two 4s when rolling a dice twice', ignoring the information we have about the sum.

Q.1. Answer as final probability should not be 1 because its asks if they are of "Matching Pair" which means they have to be left and right. You cannot chose 3 socks say 2 white and 1 gray but both whites could be left left then they are not called as "matching pair"! Probability should consider at least two that are of same color and are left and right! Can we rework on that?

Answer for question 10 seems to be wrong. P=1/36 is same as the probability of getting 4 in first roll irrespective of sum of 2 rolls is 8 or not. The correct answer is 1/5 guess. Because possible out comes for the first time are {2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and probability of getting 4 is 1/5. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In 15th sum...the way I did was...there are 6 ways in which two boys can sit together i.e in 1&2 place or 2&3 place or 3&4 place or 4&5 place or 5&6 or 6&7 place....in all the cases the probability would be...2/7x1/6....so the overall the probability of all the six cases (probability of 2 boys sitting together) would be 2/7x1/6x6 =2/7 Now the probability of 2 boys not sitting together would be 1-2/7 = 5/7

sir I guess in 10th question the initial sample space will shrink to 5. Its a problem of conditional probability here, P(A|B)= P(A∩B)/P(B) That's the definition of P(A|B). For a question involving two 6-sided dice, all possible events will be subsets of the set [1,6]×[1,6], which has cardinality 6×6=36. In this case, A is "the first throw of dice yields 4", B is "the sum of 2 numbers that appear on the uppermost face is 8". A is the set {, , , , , }. B is the set {, , , , }. A∩B is the set {}. For a set X, P(X) is the sum of the probabilities of the individual elements (which in this case are always 1/36, so P(X)=|X|/36). P(A∩B) = 1/36, P(B) = 5/36, P(A|B) = P(A∩B)/P(B) = (1/36)/(5/36) = 1/5.
