Really appreciate you doing videos in this format, just walking through the listings and talking about features and giving your honest views. It's a kind of ASMR for those of us looking for a place to get away to.
@GoodOldHousesJapan2 жыл бұрын
This is the most surprising comment I've had 😂 never thought the word ASMR would appear in the comments. Glad you liked the walkthrough though. This format is takes less time to film & edit as well so maybe I can try doing a bit more of these videos.

Having build a house in 2017 I can roughly imagine how much you d have to fix. The value of the work is certainly high, you don't get to build a house with those massive beams, decorations and so on easy today. Even fixing it will cost a fortune. So only a very small percentage of people would be able and willing to do it. Unless you totally love tangarines and are a digital nomad or rich it will be hard.

Thank you so much for these videos. My wife's from Matsuyama. We lived for a number of years in Chiba and Fukuoka. Her and our daughter are currently living in Matsuyama with her parents while I'm working and saving money back in America. I really want an 空き家. Do you think $20,000 would be enough to modestly renovate?
@GoodOldHousesJapan Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment and glad you enjoyed the videos! $20,000 USD is likely to replace the old kitchen/toilet/bathrooms, but there are probably a lot of other things that need to be fixed as well... For a typical home that's been vacant for 10-20 years, I think it'd good to at least budget 50k USD for minimum repair.

This may be a lot to ask, but how are the possibilities for internet connection for these old houses? I understand that the houses up in the mountains may not even have cell service so there would be an issue getting internet access there... Thank you so much for all these great videos! I really enjoy them!

Thanks for your comment! Internet coverage is pretty good even in rural towns of Japan as long as it's not inside deep forest and mountains. There are maps provided Rakuten or Docomo where you can check if 4g or 5g is provided in a particular area.

@shoiku47342 жыл бұрын
I smiled when you said, "Zero" with emphasis on the price. Yes, I have money to buy this property, but it is far out there. I have no personal transportation. Thanks to your videos, I have been browsing some akiya links but haven't seen any house that is not falling apart or not too far away. Would be great if maybe you know of a samurai house or Kominka $0 to $5000 not too far from the cities, not too much renovation required... Max is under $10k with all the costs included (tax and fees).
@GoodOldHousesJapan2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! Realistically it is not easy finding somewhere livable under 10k. I haven't seen any in the past few years. If you are okay with a very remote location, then perhaps there is a higher chance of finding such a place...

I could imagine it’s difficult for an American to assimilate in Japan and be accepted. And without the ability to speak the language even more difficult.
