To add context, the initial chapters of the manga are really rough. That's ok because the mangaka was just finding his footing. But it picks up around chapter 10 onwards (the shading for the haunted hospital sequence is really good) and due to recency bias, fans only remember the crazy fights that come in later. I'm willing to give the anime the benefit of the doubt and really hope that it will improve because I really want to see Heisuke's sniper ricochets at their best

It's not even recently bias. Sakadays has had some of the best fights in WSJ for a long time now. I would say the first one to reach that "incredible status" is the Kashima fight like 30 or so chapters in. Everything from that point on just gets better and bigger in scale. It's a completely unrecognizable series now pretty much. It's kind of funny going back to early chapters in retrospect.

SD is not bad by any means, for me it just feels cheap in a way I can't explain. When I open an ep I just wait for it to end and don't feel the urge to watch reaction vids for it. Finished ep 3 I guess I'll stop and see if I'll like more later.

Personally I think the animation is good, but the directing and art quality don't look good to me. Something is just very awkward about it. It's obviously not garbage like the extremists are saying but I think it's just an average or above-average adaptation.

being on the sakamoto days subreddit was crazy. since the first trailers and the op came out up until the first episode came out, everybody was convinced that the anime would look terrible, and then the first episode came out, and then everybody said it was the best thing they've ever seen, and now, a couple weeks later, it looks like the common consensus is that it looks good, just not as good as we were all hoping it'd be.

The anime gets so crazy later on man. If you read only the content the first 3 episode adapted (maybe 9-10 chaps) it doesn't represent what's coming at all. People are way too harsh on what's been adapted so far since they've done a solid job imo, but cour 2 is going to be crazy. I have no idea how they're going to do it watching cour 1. That's what I'm worried about tbh.

Exactly. I don't mind this animation at the moment, but I want to believe that a lot of the criticism from the fans stems from the fact that if the current animation style is kept up through the whole series then it's not living up to how crazy the manga is (in my current opinion). So far I think it's alright but my biggest personal gripes that I'd like to see change as we move forwards are the lessened detail (like Osaragi's dress being oversimplified), the weird grainy look the colour palate has, and obviously better sakuga for the big fights. But yeah, I'm fairly content now, but I agree that it would be great if they kicked it up a notch for the Killer arc and onwards.

It's all about layouts and creativity, what makes the manga feel so "dynamic" is how much the perspective and scenery change. More than "Sakuga fight scene go fast" a more deliberate aproach to how enviroment impacts a fight is more important IMO. Still, I hope Mr. Takamura and X scenes/drawings have uniqueness to them.

the schedule for this is so garbage... TMS is just throwing everything they can to push out these episodes, hiring an army of 2ka artists of varying quality to finish the (sometimes stickman-esque) layouts, with 6 bajillion ad's on a single episode correcting broken perspective and drawings, with another 6 bajillion cad's to correct the ad's that either suck or just didn't have enough time. It's crazy that this is standard for an action show in the modern era. It's just absolutely insane.

List of Recent shonen adaptations. Jujutsu kaisen - phenomenal, Chainsaw man - phenomenal, Demon slayer - phenomena, Undead Unluck - Amazing, Kaiju no 8 - Amazing, Elusive Samurai - Amazing, Dandadan - phenomenal. Do you see the issue, it's not just jjk or ds, ppl wanted something on the calibar of recent shonens. Even upcoming Gachiakuta and Kagurabachi is probably gonna get amazing adaptations. So obviously sakamoto days fans are gonna be not happy when they are the only odd one out, they are the only one who gets the short end sticks. Also it's not a gag Manga, it was only gag Manga for like first 10 chapters, at that time the author didn't know what he wanted to do with the series. After those initial arcs, it turns of full on battle shonen with funny moments here and there. In future it gonna have some of the coolest action set pieces, that'd what fans are worried about.

Good video man. I know I made a long response comment in a previous video of yours about Sakamoto but I think you gave the situation mostly a fair shake. On the adaptational standpoint I am gonna agree to disagree on some things post ep 1. On ep 1 I agree it was an upgrade. Although I do think not including Sakamoto dismantling the gun was a massive missed opportunity. In eps 2 and 3, beyond the instances of broken animation, I feel they're below the manga in adaptational quality due to mostly copy paste storyboards and even in anime original scenes I don't think the level of animation was high enough to qualify as a content improvement. As for the jankiness, especially in ep 3 where the roller coaster fight was especially dynamic in the manga, the editing had a bit too many cuts for my taste while they jumped over the coasters for it to feel natural. Combined with the inconcistent drawings and animation I think the manga is obviously better here. Ep 4 just came out, and I'd say it was second strongest drawing wise and better than ep 2 and 3 animation wise but I am noticing not much deviation from the manga storyboards and if they do deviate, it's not much of a change creatively.

I really cant take you serious when you have read like 5 chapters, dont talk about cut content, dont even mention things like the gun disassembling scene getting changed in episode 1, and then say that the story is goofy and silly and isnt the type of story that needs cinematic storyboards, when the inspiration for this show is ACTION MOVIES look at chapter idk 100 and tell me this is a goofy show, or just simple stuff like how the panels are drawn and tell me it doesnt need cinematic storyboard, you come of as clearly biased and dont even mention some of the things people clearly have a problem with, the anime is like a 7/10 so its not bad but clearly falls short of the manga and while it might work for the start and the first cour this will not work for the second cour or later seasons

Well said, honestly. Seeing what comes later, it’s clear that the animators need far more time and even some pretty big name animators if they’re to do this manga justice. The way the author conveys weight and motion with still images is incredible and in the realm of artists like Itagaki. It would be obvious spoilers, but bro HAS to look at some of the insane shit that happens later if he’s to understand why this series is so gassed up all the time.

Hot take but I feel like the studio should’ve known how beloved the manga was, so it’s kind of on them for not being able to deliver on the animation for the fans. That being said, I’m not condoning all the really negative reception and especially not any harassment towards the animators if that’s happening. I don't want to be that guy who's constantly typing Bleach in the comments, but I still gotta ask, are we getting an in-depth Bleach cour 3 analysis as you've mentionied? There was a lot of great moments, scenes and fights throughout the whole cour, not just animation-vise, but also compositing, effects and backgrounds work. From the first eps Ichibe vs Yhwach crazyness, the second ep had a pretty great showing in Ichigo vs Yhwach, then we got a few eps that you've already reviewed, Mayuri and Shunsui had some amazing moments and their lieutenants, FriEND was all around amazing and the finale had a lot to offer.

Have u seen the new nhk video abt peirrot like they actually teased boruto part 2 production in that. And they also like told in a way that bleach cour 4 might take near 1.5 yr of time. And I think they also taking this much time cause of other bleach anime projects of anniversary which might be in planning or in production rn. And in that commercial trailer of bleach which showed bleach iconic moments also showcase kanno and he did two cuts in that so I think they cooking hard for bleach. Hope we get black clover announcement as well on 22nd march in their new line ups.

As a huge fan of the manga, I do agree that episode 1 was pretty great and evoked the same feelings I had reading the manga. My main problems have been with the other episodes because there are scenes that aren’t even action scenes in the manga that have fairly interesting angles and don’t need much in terms of movement, but in the anime they’re changed to the most flat and generic angles imaginable. I’d be fine with them changing the angles if they did something interesting with them, ala the Gojo honored one scene which people made a hissy fit over, but there’s nothing about the angle changes they’re making that feels interesting for the presentation of the series. Also they for some reason didn’t design Lu in her Chinese outfit and long haired Nagumo from the manga, maybe due to time constraints but stuff like that is a shame unfortunately. Those factors combined with AD work that seems rough at times (probably because of the schedule) and the backgrounds not looking great brings the show down so much for me. I think if the action still was about how it is but these other problems weren’t present, the show would feel much more fun like episode 1. As for the action in the manga, I feel like now is when it’s at its weakest but Suzuki definitely gets better overtime and it’ll become concerning on if the current team can actually do anything to elevate the fights, but we’ll just have to see. Obviously there’s people complaining that it’s not an action sakugafest of a show, and for how much I love the manga I would’ve loved that, but a lot of the other aspects of it are even more of a problem than the action animation for me

Alot of ppl literally said that the recent saka days ep had bad animation and when I looked I was like man ppl really blind if they think that this is bad animation. Sure it isn't the best it could have but it isn't bad at all ppl just making too much fuss . And in solo leveling recent ep too like ppl really be shouting that 'why it doesn't look exactly like manhwa' or its always 'manhwa looks better'. And I even saw some brain dead ppl saying that manhwa animation (manga animation type) is better than the actual one.

Finally, someone appreciates the additional cuts in the first ep, the opening fight scene was extended, and so was the final one, which I too thought were better than the manga. I recommend you read the rest of the manga, the story gets even deeper and the action goes up a notch. Unfortunately the deep story takes a toll on the comedy, which kinda becomes less in quantity.

Yeah, episode 1 was good looking and very rounded ep in all aspects(especially the first scene), but i feel from episode 2 onwards the anime is mostly flat outside action segments, episode 2 felt a lot rushed, episode 3 was bland outside the actual fight at the final and same with episode 4(but action was very good, at least hard boiled's part), i feel the anime lacks dynamic and creativity outside action scenes, and that is a problem because the story so far is like 1/3(at much) of action and 2/3 other stuff, so additionally from basic non-action scenes there are noticeable problems with chara designs in that moments, like some off-models in close shots when movement is present(but seeing the army of animators now it makes more sense). So, isn't like saying that the anime is bad but it could have be better without reach CSM or even JJK levels, but more like Spy X Family levels(For non-action scenes at least), and now seeing that Megalo Box's director is in the project, why he wasn't chose as the anime director startled me, I think one of the strongest points of Megalo Box, and why I like it so much, is its overall direction.

People wanted to get mind-blowing sakuga that you see on JJK or One Piece recently, not Demon Slayer's approach of heavy-comp and strong on-model.

Gose to show not every anime needs ufotable style or jjk level of sakuga and freelancers to have great quality. It's always good to appreciate different styles and efforts for other animes.

Not every show falls into this pattern, but a significant majority do. While some might call me crazy for saying this, the truth runs deeper than most realize. The industry will never openly explain why certain shows receive “special treatment” when it comes to top-tier freelancers and resources-doing so would be like opening Pandora’s box. In my opinion, anything with demonic or supernatural themes tends to get exceptional adaptations, often backed by raw talent. Look at titles like Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Frieren, Heavenly Delusion, Dandadan, and Jujutsu Kaisen-these shows are prime examples.

Fow how hyped up Sakamoto Days is I think personally I'm going to have to set back my expectations a little. I like the animation but the premise, characters and (lack of plot) seem a little disappointing to me. It comes across a little as assassin of the week. Does anyone know if it will get a little more meat to it within like 2 episodes? Otherwise I think I should put it on hold and wait until there's more episodes out before I sour myself on it week by week.

First 49 chapters? That’s like half of chainsawman part 1. People were crying that chainsawman 12 EPS and only 4 eps in it wasn’t good enough when it had amazing animation. Why does sakamoto get more time to cook. Also demon slayer had a great season 2 and the final arc is good and has tons of plot reveals yet people said there’s no story and it’s all trash carried etc. can’t win anime people are toxic.
