Probations runs to raise funds for Special Olympic athletes

The San Bernardino County Probation Department proudly joined law enforcement agencies from across the state in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes. The Torch Run, a cherished tradition, brings together law enforcement personnel and community members to champion inclusion, unity, and athletic achievement for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The LETR, known as the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser for the Special Olympics, marks its commitment to fostering a community that celebrates diversity and champions the abilities of all individuals. This year’s event saw the #SBCProbation team, running alongside their peers, demonstrating their dedication to this noble endeavor.
“We are honored to participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run,” said Chief Reece. “This event embodies the spirit of unity and the power of community. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these athletes. Our participation reflects our commitment to supporting the Special Olympics and promoting inclusivity in San Bernardino County.”
The Probation Department runners laced up their shoes, alongside Special Olympics athlete Brett Laza of Phelan, in his mission to raise awareness for his fellow athletes. Together they carried the Flame of Hope through various neighborhoods, symbolizing the journey of Special Olympics athletes striving to achieve their goals. Our staff proudly passed the Flame of Hope to fellow law enforcement personnel from the Rialto Police Department.
The annual LETR serves as a beacon of hope and a testament to the positive impact of collaboration between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The San Bernardino County Probation Department’s participation underscores their dedication to fostering a community rooted in respect, support, and unity.
