He's part of the gameplay lore far more than the lore lore. Cannon rush is one of the oldest cheese in the books, almost as infamous as the Zergling Rush. Anyone who has played Starcraft multiplayer will immediately go "Oh yeah, canon rush!" when they see this hero. Plucking him from the cinematic is really only there to give him context in the lore. Outside of that, everything about him gameplay wise is full of references that players WILL get.

After initially disappointed about the reveal of a Protoss Probe, I'm now excited about Probius and plan to buy it and test it in PTR. It's not a big name hero, but at least it's unique and quite different than other heroes from the Nexus, even Gaz.

It's not about the importance of the character, its about what that character brings to the game. Matt Horner is just a dude. Whats he gonna do? Call in the Hyperion? Raynor already does that. As for Stukov, he would be a great addition but Probius is a really interesting character kit-wise and as much as I like Stukov, they already have characters that would work in a similar way to how Stukov would theoretically work. I'm sure he'll show up eventually but can't we just be happy about this? At least its not a Warcraft character or an assassin.

I highly doubt they'll change any Overwatch character they add in. If you've noticed, all Overwatch characters that have been added all retain abilities they use in Overwatch itself. It literally makes them the easiest ports as they only thing they have to worry about is damage numbers and model porting. Everything else is already there.

I want him to be a mage and I think that they will keep his Frost Nova and Ult the same. However if they keep his other 2 skills then he would rather be a specialist/support/utility than a range assasin mage, kinda like Mediv and Tassadar.

Well, they are making him better in every way. Deth Lazor can be channeled at any time, turret targeting baseline, xplodium range increased, and his robo-goblin is now a combination of sprint/stoneskin/+100% attack damage (his former lv.20 upgrade). Doubt those are all the changes, but we'll see.
