9 years later, still helpful! on win 10 after deleting all the midi1-9 drivers as soon as I plugged in the nanokonrol it puts them back, but strangely after doing all in the installs and restarting, this doesn't matter and works a treat. Thanks!

Hi Simon! Thank you so much for this video and keeping it up since 2012. A friend gave me a NK2 over a year ago and I have not be able to get it work until tonight. It was so refreshing to have an intelligent person go step by step in how to fix the problem. Your going into the registry and show EXACTLY where and then what to delete(I knew from reading that the 'midi count' was too large) fixed my problem with my Korg microKey2, the Korg Kontrol Editor(now it 'sees' the device') and UVI Workstation running on Windows 7, 64bit Home Premium. Hi. Thanks for taking the time to provide help for this, but I have another angle...When I first plugged in the NK2 (without any Korg software installed), it recognised it fine as a class-compliant device and then proceeded to automatically download drivers from Windows update (actual Korg drivers, as it turned out). It was only AFTER I installed the drivers from the Korg website that it stopped recognising the NK2. So I uninstalled the Korg driver from "programs and features" in control panel, then removed it from device manager and let it re-install the first Windows update-retrieved driver. Now works fine. I think that possibly since you did this video, Windows update has included the correct driver in it's catalogue, so no need for the addditional Korg driver, in fact, it is positively detrimental! You Sir, are an absolute LEGEND! Spent a couple of weeks searching forums to try and get my nanoKey2 working and nothing helped until I found this video. I'm using Window 10 which seems to keep re-populating the registry midi ports with the wdmaud.drv driver, but by installing the Korg driver immediately after deleting the wdmaud drivers, I've now got Ableton Live to see the Korg midi device. Work for me on Windows 10. I had over 20 MIDI devices installed in Regedit. I skipped over the familiar ones (like Push 2, which I'm still using) and deleted MIDI4-MIDI9, because they were all named something generic like "USB AUDIO". Plugged in my Nano Kontrol 2, re-installed the Korg USB driver, and now the Nano Kontrol 2 is visible in the editor software and Ableton Live for the first time. Thanks!

the trick still works today in 2022 with the korg minilogue XD. I removed all Midi entries from registry , then reinstalled the driver and then midi1 and 2 were pointing on the korg drv file. then it was detected in my VST plugins. thx a Lot

It WORKED! #1 answer on the Web. I spent HOURS trying to figure this out. Even Craig Anderton said he was stumped on this one. Had same problem as Errick; I followed your instructions & KONTROL still didn't work. So, run MIDI OX first, then install KONTROL and you've got it. If you hav Win7 don't even try installing any other way than Simon's. You'll drive yourself nuts. Follow it step by step and you will be happy with the result. Thanks Simon I just subscribed. Wow. I was scratching my head in Win 7 64bit with the Nanopad2. Did everything and no go, then your registry cleanup nailed it. I guess it didn't help that I have 3 bcrs, a novation Le and Axium all installed. BTW: For somereason, the v.14.r12 driver didn't work, only the r6. Anyways, it's working now, thanks thanks to you.

I had the same problem, but it seems there's an easier way now. I just went to the start menue, Korg folder and clicked uninstall usb midi drivers. Then you can chose to uninstall the win midi driver associated with your korg. The one on the top. Now it works! But still: Thanks a lot!

You did a great job explaining everything and after 9 hours I am certain I followed your instructions to a T. That being said, the Register on my Windows 11 would replace the wdmaud every time I downloaded the KORG DRIVER. Returning the item seems the better choice at this point. Goal was to tie the nanoKontrol 2 as the 2nd midi along with my main midi and APC40 mk2 for use with live visuals in resolume. Any other controllers with less channel connecting issues for that purpose would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for making the best video I could find on this topic.

Simon, I would have never touched regedit before, it's just too intimidating. Mainly I don't want to screw-up my system, I'm kinda a newbie so keep the videos/tutorials coming. DUUUUDE. Thank you!!! I've been fighting with this for hours. I thought mine was busted. This also works as a fix for FL 11 too. You just have to rescan the MIDI, then ENABLE the Taktile. There should be two options. I enabled both. The biggest thing is make sure you are on Global and use the Control Scene. Thanks for the video.

For me, the controler does connect and it is recognized by my daw as well as the kontrol editor, but whenever I try to write new config for the thing, I get a message saying no midi port was opened. Can this be fixed with this method too?

Hi I need help bad. I tried to use this method but couldn't complete it. I couldn't delete all midi files in regedit fearing of deleting my steinberg interface's driver. When I did the rest korg still didn't work correctly in Reaper. The inputs work wrongly, I choose HUI(partial) but for example when I press track solo button the track fader goes to minus infinite, the record arm button causes the track to 100% pan left. Other functions have no reaction. Can it be my device has a problem?

Perfect!!!!The KORG's bug is independent from the Operative System (Win7 or Win10, the problem is the same). The USB-MIDI KORG's driver must be installed before the other drivers, because it does not work with number of Chanel over 9. It is an incredible bug also in the last driver at this date. I wasn't able to get my nanokontrol2 working with your advice. In clicking the configuration under the Korg folder in Start menu, the second driver listed as "kernel mode driver:" shows "n/a" after it. Also, I was deleting the virtual midi ports like you said and deleted the first one (the one simply called "midi" and now I am worried I deleted something I shouldn't have. I still can't get this to work, please help!

Your help video was very helpful. Cleaning the registry ensured the Kontrol worked. But recently it has stopped working. I downloaded the latest drivers and Kontrol editor from Korg's website and installed. I also did the same registry clean up and it shows in the registry on midi channel 4. Infact when I just plugged it in it downloaded Korg's drivers because it showed in the registry straightaway before I installed the Korg's drivers from their website. But when I open the Kontrol editor it shows no connected device. I have recently updated to Cubase 8.5 pro and wondered if this may have been the cause. Or maybe I should do as the fellow commentator and try it without the Korg drivers and simply use the ones that are installed when I connect it? What do you think? Thanks, Jason

I just got a Korg Kronos 2 and I installed the MIDI USB driver, and am having the same problem. Cakewalk sees my Edirol's 5 MIDI ports, the Montage's 3 MIDI ports and Motif XS 4 MIDI ports, but Kronos isn't on the list of devices in Cakewalk. I'm evaluating Kronos and Montage on 30 day return periods, and have 6 days left on the Montage before my return period expires. Trying to find out if the Kronos will suit my needs, but if I can't even use it in Cakewalk then I keep the Montage and return the Kronos.

Helped in 2021. Deleting the registry entry for midi fixed the problem.

Should work if the issue is the same. If this fix doesn't work it must be something else. I know the nano series have been impacted in the latest OSX update but haven't heard of any windows problems at all.

Hi, thanks for the video. I can't find the entries in the registry which you describe: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 (midi1 and midi2) Only "midi" and "midimapper" exist. I'm using the newest windows update (Spring 2019). Is it possible that things have changed around recently or am I making a mistake? Would appreciate some help because I need my Korg to work. Thanks
