I am not certain of any of this, and I wouldn't be surprised if I made a mistake in every single answer I came up with these, but it should show you how stating things formally, noticing patterns, and narrowing down possible options can help you figure out how to answer a word problem, but then again, I can't magically transmit my reasoning abilities to you, so even if I know how to do something and I show you how to do it, you might not necessarily be able to recreate the exact same reasoning process on your own once you face a different set of problems by yourself.

When counting the number of dots in a hexagon, you start with 0, then add n (the number of dots in the first line), subtract 1 (taking into account the one you already counted in the previous line), and repeat adding n and subtracting 1 until you've got them all. If s=8 it will become 8×6=46 but the given is 42. D/6=× would be better I guess. I'm so confused too😁. BTW how would it be?
