Dr. O'Loughlin, Thanks so much for posting these videos. I just finished the one on doing a histogram with a frequency distribution. And by the way, you have a very nice accent and a sophisticated way of articulating your presentation. It was very easy to understand and follow everything you said. Thank you.

Thank you! I watched several people explain the "histogram" part - thanks, I knew that already - before I finally found a video that explained the way to calculate the "percentage" part on the right side of the graph! You're the first person to explain that it was a cumulative percent, and I really appreciate your thorough explanation. The example you gave was perfect for helping me understand this concept.

This is the best explanation of Pareto Analysis yet. I have been all night trying to understand this because it covers 1/3 of my Assignment. On our paper text provided it didn't explaining very well and the examples still did not make sense which got me searching online for someone or somewhere to help me understand this principle better. I could use excel to plot/calculate values required for Pareto Analysis but was still asking myself "what does this all mean?" but this video is super clear.

At the very beginning I thought this video was absolute nonsense as the way you speak was not good for any listener. You bind words together and breaths heavily in between which makes so hard to listen. But your visual presentation was very good, so I kept listening. At the end you were the only one who explained Pareto Analysis very well. So, I encourage viewers NOT to give up and keep viewing...at the end you will get the real benefit. And thank you "eoloughin" for putting up this video.

I can not focus on the main issue, i just think your nose is congested. As you speak fast, i have to pay all my attention to understand what you say. I can hear you breathe during speech. If i am right, you are probably having sinus problem because of your nose. (I am not a medical doctor, this was just a prediction, dont get mad at me please) Besides, i certanly learned what pareto is, this video is really usefull. Thank you for sharing.

The only change I would recommend to make it a "true" pareto chart is to change the left axis maximum to the total amount of occurrences. This will make the percentage and the number of occurrences of the first element correct where the percentage and the top of the first element should meet.

I honestly can't believe that NOBODY attempted to make a 'I am the twenty percent!' joke at the beginning.
@malcolmbryant12 жыл бұрын
Pareto can show up as 80/20 but the fact they add up to 100 IS A COINCIDENCE. The "per cents" are of two different things. Real analyses often reveal 80/10 or 20/60 distributions. A good convention would be to always express it as 'adding up to 100' whilst reminding all that they represent different things so various 'skewings' would be shown as 95/5 (wealth for example) 80/20 (many things) or (if perfectly equitable) 50/50.

@EugeneOLoughlin6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, No - my teeth were not glued shut ;-) This video was published 9 years ago when my audio equipment was poor - a simple desk mic with the old Windows Movie Maker to "glue" the separate audio track and PowerPoint slides together. One really had to get one's "teeth" stuck in to create videos in those days. Nevertheless, I hope that you found the video useful. Dr E.

"... not good for any listener ..." Since yours is the ONLY similar complaint, and as I have no problem with his manner of speaking, perhaps you should speak for yourself and not all (any) listener. It seems to me you need to adapt to persons with accents not like your own. You will need that skill in the global village we all work and play in.

Hi Lugat, Many thanks for your comment and I'm sorry that the video does not help you. This video was made in November 2009 on a simple desktop computer with basic audio/video tools - today's quality was not available to me then. I have since updated the video though it is now part of a Problem Solving Techniques course on Udemy (www.udemy.com/course/problemsolvingtechniques/). If you would like free access to this course, please message me here and I will send you a coupon. I can promise a definite improvement in the quality since 13 years ago 🙂. Best wishes, Dr E.
