Customs wale Traffic police ki tarah hote hain bro. Mann kiya to kisi ko bhi rok lete hain or man nai kiya to without helmet/Drink drive/without papers, ko bhi chor dete hain. There is no set standard for levy of customs. They just have to show ki unhone kaam kiya kuch.

reason for such difference at airport is because of declaration given.. if u disclose everything you bought then upto 50000 you need not to pay tax.. but if u didnt declare anything in declaration then even an item costing 1000 will be taxable along with penalty for non disclosure.. so its better to declare whatever you bought from outside india n bringing it into india n use red channel instead..

One things is that , if any one import outside of for personal use then no custom duty required. But any one import purpose of gift , re-saile, or any commercial type. Then pay costom duties.

Gurav, the item is marked sample. When an item is marked sample, it may be allowed to pass duty free. However, the customs is not under any obligation to let every item marked sample to pass duty free. So you got lucky and Mr. Sharma didn't. Second aspect is this - low value items often pass duty free and the customs prefer to clear such items in bulk. The way this works is they will lump many shipment together and pick one or more random shipment(s) to levy duty upon, remaining shipments go duty free. There is no written rule to decide which shipment goes duty free but usually low value items and samples go duty free. Maybe Mr. Sharma's shipment was lumped with many low value/sample shipments and hence got picked for duty.

Gaurav Bhai : It happened due to wrong classification of the Product. Being a Chartered Accountant, I have seen many cases where product is wrongly classified and therefore are wrongly charged. Rate of customs are prescribe under Custom Tariff Act.

Charging of custom duty on an individual package imported through post or courier is depend upon discretion of the customs offices, if he thinks that particular product is imported multiple time and is liable to charge then he may charge such duties. Im your case your custom officer may be different from sharma ji's officer.

Hi Gaurav, I have listen and seen your video about customs duty paid. I would like to inform you that. There are may be two three reason for charging customs duty in the same consignment. Both the consignments had dispatched in different (One is 17/08/2016 and another is 25/08/2016). This is customs negligencies. They have not checked consignment in properly and in the both the date, may be two different customs officer have clearly both the consignment. May be one officer has watch and charge the customs duty and another officer has not watch and clear the consignment without paying customs duty. Sometimes, when courier company file consolidated bill of entry in customs. In this cash, due to not check each and every consignment properly. This may happened. If you have any further doubt. If you are importing an expensive product from China to India, the risks involved are high. There are many things that can go wrong especially with the customs clearance in India. It's not worth it, I had very bad experienced. Unless, you are importing through a secured reputed local vendor like from eBay.IN or Amazon.IN, you rather opt for alternatives.

yes technical guruji is right.. customs duty are working in such an unorganised manner..they dont respond to your queries..they even dont follow their own protocols..as per protocol a bonafide gift of Rs 10000/- is exempt from duty..yet i ordered two same products from the same website and same delivery method yet one got duty the other didnt and when you confront them they are highly ignorant and when given the reference of their own website they plainly say no.. before GST the duty being paid was about 10% after GST it is 42%..so please my friendly advise nothing works in customs..no gift no value..nothing..its totally your luck..if you happen to have an in-law or relative living in abroad then maybe then can help..rest forget about it
