Mine are doing the same thing (hiding or hanging around the bottom). Its the cold spring weather. I always get some parasites this time of year as well. I don't necessarily treat unless they are really infested. They generally go away as we go into May and the warmer temperatures become a bit more consistent.

Nice video thanks for sharing my Koi are all sulking at the bottom of my pond but I’m putting this down on temperature 9c at the moment here in Kent I have noticed some redness on some of the Koi but I don’t want to disturb them and stress them out at the moment 🤷♂️

Johnny lost one of mine last month, been through the winter with no covers at all. Noticed it jumping out of water an thought nothing an then a couple days later dead.. Got myself a microscope an run tests on other fish an nothing at all. Pissed me right off.

Did you scrape the gills mate. Jumping koi may mean gill fluke, they jump to flush the gills out.

Thanks for sharing, happy you found nothing happening negatively with your koi. What is the name of that tree in your video? Beautiful fish!

the bright red one is called Beni-Makio - its an Acer that will turn green, the red leaves are the colour when they are young, young new growth through the season also has this colour which is fabulous with the mature green leaves as the back setting.

Great vid mate , how much sedate do u use in the bowl , I find it hard to judge and worry I’m using to much lol , thanks 👍🏻

Just a little drop, airate the water and watch the Koi. If it needs some more add some and repeat. Some koi take more than others.

Being a koi keeper and keen carp angler for many years the spring is always a strange time with carp behaviour sitting in the mid layers or doing nothing for days on end especially when we are having a crap spring like this one 😂

100% mate, it just dawned on me something wasn't right.
@atsuminaoki99103 ай бұрын
Do you need to take the KOIs one by one and scrape them? We pre-sterilise them, judging from the way they swim,※ rolling behaviour, etc. + the colour and foam in the water and so on. No one keeps a microscope on hand because it is an annual event.

It’s being proactive that counts Gary my friend. I’m happy there wasn’t any parasites, so thinking outside the box is necessary.

I have been scratching my head similarly. Sitting on the bottom but nothing on scrapes. I've come to the conclusion, they are loading our tap water with shite, and the rain is loaded with shite too.
@KraftyKoi3 ай бұрын
Not necessarily, atmospheric pressure plays a big part. In stormy weather especially when hot this will zap the oxygen out of the water but the Koi will sit on the bottom.
@KoiEvents3 ай бұрын
@@KraftyKoi I should of mentioned a friend also had some on the bottom, they used a hanna metre for chlorine they said it read 2.5, I think that was max reading

@aengusfoley66943 ай бұрын
I know you are the expert but might it be a reaction to the cold and responding individually ? You could be correct about the pressure . Fish look nice Anthony
@KraftyKoi3 ай бұрын
Aengus you're totally correct, I mentioned that we had just had a huge hail storm as well so the temperature change and pressure played a part. The pressure thing usually affects us more later in the season so it was at the back of my mind. I thought parasites because of other behaviour observed and time of year.

@@stephengibbon2002 you most certainly can. Sometimes it's worth doing so you can inspect the fish at the same time. Less stress. I have seen recently that this stops parasites movement etc, it doesn't change a thing. They still move about like normal.

Neo need to do a water change Will. By cleaning the filtration was enough after all parameters came back good. The water and filtration tells you when to do that.
