I got a GP ST1 post in London this year and rejected it purely because of these issues. GPs aren’t appreciated anymore, they’re being replaced by noctors. I’m not willing to take on the medicolegal responsibility of multiple PAs/paramedics/pharmacists seeing undifferentiated patients. Would rather leave medicine.

I definitely think there are growing concerns surrounding how different groups of healthcare professionals are being used within primary care. I’m hoping, maybe naively, that there will be a resolution to these issues by the time I get through training although I can understand why others are choosing to leave.

As a gp, there is nothing more triggering to me the the role of a PA. To think the gone through the hell of medical school , the hell of f1/f2, the stress of 3 years gp training and in the end go compete with a 25 year old PA who has completed a 2 year course.

That’s one thing I am worried about now that I’m about to start my GP training, what is the competition for jobs going to be like when I complete my training. Am I going to be competing with people in other roles who will be able to go straight into working in a practice right out of university.

Love it man, at a similar stage to you CT2 in London, it indeed sucks and is deliberate.
