This has never happened to me on my old VCR when I used to watch VHS tapes. I suggest you take it to a repair shop so that a technician can fix the player.

Sorry about your Silver Sony N750 VCR having some problems Mr Brendan!!!

I guess Sony had the Betamax VCR before it went to VHS VCR by 1988. I still have my Sony SL-HF450 Super Beta Hi-Fi VCR and it still works without a problem.

This VCR may have need the buttons lubricated, and the display is possibly destroyed which might be the cause. At least my 2009 Samsung VCR DVD combo doesn't have the display problem.

Sony should’ve kept the Betamax VCR after 1988 when they started to go into the VHS VCR route. Thankfully, I got my Panasonic PV-950H Omnivision VHS VCR at a yard sale for $2 and it still works perfectly. I got rid of my Samsung DVD recorder/VCR combo a few days ago and the power is screwed up like crazy, but it works okay, and the VCR was made by Funai for Samsung. Funai is the worst company that made VCR’s, but the Panasonic VCR blows the Funai licensed VCR’s away, because Panasonic was not Funai.
