can you explain how proc sql works like pdv of data step in sas
@learnerea Жыл бұрын
Technically, Proc SQL works by converting SQL statements into a series of SAS data step code. When you submit a Proc SQL code, SAS first compiles the code and then generates SAS data step code based on the SQL statements in the code. The SAS data step code generated by Proc SQL includes SAS programming statements that perform the operations specified in the SQL statements. For example, if you use a SELECT statement in the Proc SQL code, SAS generates a data step that retrieves the specified columns from the dataset. The generated SAS data step code also includes various optimization techniques that improve the performance of the SQL statements. For example, SAS may generate code to sort the data before performing a join operation, which can improve the efficiency of the operation. Once the SAS data step code is generated, SAS executes it and returns the results in the form of a new SAS dataset or a report. You can then use SAS programming statements to further manipulate the results or export them to an external file format. Overall, Proc SQL provides a powerful and flexible way to interact with and manipulate data stored in SAS datasets, using SQL statements that are converted into optimized SAS data step code. Hope this helps...
