Wow!! You made a great video here. I laughed when you used your car to drive back and forth over the flax as part of the processing! :D Such a lot of work for such a tiny bundle. Makes me appreciate my roll of linen cloth I bought for sewing classes all the more!!

Incredible! This is just what I was looking for. Thank you for showing the process! May I ask where you found all of the equipment? Also, can you give me an idea of how much thread a 10’ x 10’ planter box of flax plants will yield? Thanks again for such a great video!

10 sq ft will produce about 2-3oz, so 20-30oz? My husband and I made most of the equipment ourselves. There's not really anyone I'm aware of who is producing flax processing equipment commercially, but Woolgatherers sells some really sharp plans for making tools. www.woolgatherers.com/FlaxTools.html

Plant fibers are all a lot of work, but the results are worth it! Cotton is probably the least messy!

Does she really want the roots as well?
@Luthvarian3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Yes! Pulling the plant up by the roots preserves the full length of the fiber and produces a smoother fabric, as there isn't a "cut" end. The fiber tapers naturally, to an extent, though the root end will always be less fine than the flower end. Flax also comes up super easy by the roots. Cutting it is actually more work.

@@Luthvarian Oh, that's kind. Thanks for this good lesson. So interesting. I have developed an interest in the making of linen. Seems to be quite a process. Linen is quite expensive these days.
