A virtual tour of Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising an exhibition which was on display at Collins Barracks from 2016 - 2020.
This film, featuring Museum curators, educators & guides, provides an engaging, informative and thought-provoking look at this important exhibition, exploring this significant period in our history. The exhibition, which formed a key element of the nation’s commemorations of the centenary of the Easter Rising when it opened in 2016, focused on the events leading up to and during Easter Week through objects, documents and photographs from the Museum’s Easter Week Collection.
Like the exhibition, this new film focuses on personal stories, not just those of the leaders but also those of the lesser-known participants and civilians involved in the week’s events through chance and also looks at the immediate aftermath of the Rising and the impact of the executions on the leaders’ families and on the wider public, in the years following the Rising. The film also includes reactions to the exhibition from the public, and we’re inviting viewers to send in their responses, thoughts and memories of the exhibition which we hope to add in the coming months.
