I just found your beautiful and useful page and going through all these videos one by one. It is a nice of you teaching all these tips one by one ❤ I even purchased your brushed. I love them, they are perfect if you want to add lovely texture to your art and make them more unique and alive. I’ve never drawn anything before and just started drawing and I made my very first patterns. Really like to be a surface pattern designer one day but I don’t know the clear way to become a professional someday. Hi Mel, I loved this tutorial SO much! It makes designing beautiful seamless patterns easy. However, it must be me, but I'm having a problem getting everything to snap in correctly. I have magnetic and snapping turned on and the distance and velocity set to the max. Do you have any suggestions as to why this is being so tricky for me?

Hey Julie, yes it can be tricky to get it to snap to the correct place and takes a bit of practice and patience. One tip is to use your other finger to release the selection by clicking on the move tool (arrow) to deselect. I find my hand with the apple pencil sometimes nudges it when I release it.

Another thing I noticed is that I think the snapping has an even harder time when working on canvases bigger than what you show in your example. Using a 27x27 px canvas was even more tricky, but with your tip I got it to work! What a relief!!🙂@@MelArmstrong

Hello, and first of all, I wanted to thank you so much for your generous videos, I have learned so much from you. I have a question and I know you are busy, but if you have a chance I would love your suggestion. I have made a stamp brush before, and had no problem, but when I make the drawing for the fan template, and paste it, it pastes on a black background instead of the white, and the drawing is super light grey and I can't see it. when I tap to reverse the image so that the background is white , my drawing is super light grey instead of black. I tried to export it into photos and import from there, and that worked but it also was super light grey. I'm sure I must have changed a setting somewhere without realizing it, because I did the exact same thing for another brush stamp a few weeks ago and it worked great. If you have any insights that you can share I would be so grateful.

Thanks Mel I just followed along with this, I am getting into Procreate for the first time. However when I make the stamp brush, it repeats in the preview and I can't see why this is happening?

This can sometimes happen if you have Symmetry turned on, so maybe check that. Go to Actions -> Canvas and check that the Drawing Guide is turned off.

@@MelArmstrong thanks for the speedy reply! Yes that worked thanks. :) Also, any idea why when I do the 4 x quadrants I still get a white hairline between them all even with magnetics and snapping turned on and zooming in fully to check?

@@amystephens3786 sometimes it can be tricky to line them up and may take a few goes at it. Try to ensure you get the gold/orange lines both horizontally and vertically to indicate you've aligned it correctly. It really just comes with practice. I'm hoping Procreate will make pattern design a little more intuitive like Photoshop/Illustrator one day.

Around 4:34, you start duplicating Layer two but then you stop talking. What is the last action you do after consolidating the multiple Layer 2's before you test the pattern? I have slowed it down to .25 on repeat & can't see what you are doing. Thanks! 100% new to this.

Thanks for watching and reaching out to ask your question. I actually just duplicated and then merged the layers to make the pencil line stand out a bit more. This is not a step you need to do, so you can completely ignore it. 🙂
