I started at 12, now in my 50s, no PCs or Macs back then when I started, just used anything I could get my hands on (I borrowed gear, swapped and traded until I had my own little setup), I coded music on my Commodore 64, was also into electronics and building music gear; filters, etc. (I still do this). The internet didn't exist for most of my early career to network or find deals, although I have had a lot of releases and the odd successes over the decades, but nothing ever really came of it, yet I still can't stop making music. It never goes away.

Tape Beatles, Russ Curry Experimental Music, Kirk Corey the U of I instructor....on and on then Negativland. Just before your time we used "pause button editing" where we learned different machines paused at different speeds or on/off-ness. Sorry I'm drawing blanks on the other folks, but we exchanged tapes by including IRL mail addresses so anyone who heard could send a copy of their own work. All on cassette, ha ha.

Quick question, are all of these keyboards hooked to different things?
@waynemyers24692 жыл бұрын
I absolutely adore collaborative projects, especially ones that marry diverse, often counter-intuitive genres in an effort to kick off the restraints imposed upon us by illegitimate, often evil social hierarchies whose sole purpose is to separate us from each other by creating and maintaining artificial boundaries that drive us into a permanent state of apathetic or antagonistic opposition (Translation): "I love it when talented people find ways of fuckin' with The Man." I remember the first time I saw Blue Man Group performing with a Japanese drum troupe; I remember the first time I listened to Central European heavy-metal; I remember watching a classical violinist playing with a blue-grass band; I remember the documentary about a black jazz musician who fell in love with Mongolian throat-singing, traveled to the wilds of Mongolia and entered a competition that is held only once every eight or ten years and...won. As a prize they gave him the most gorgeous little Mongolian pony you've ever seen. In each of the above examples the whole was so much more than the sum of its parts. To me, the wonder of true diversity, as a necessary social goal or condition isn't realized by acknowledging the many, many ways it resolves itself into different, discrete entities but, instead, the way it draws diverse elements together and allows beauty to almost magically erupt, in the midst of it all, out of the ecstatic stew of mutually beneficial, completely human shared experiences and love (Translation): "I am inspired by people who, on the surface, appear to have little if anything in common with each other and yet, somehow, transcend the differences, as if under the direction of some invisible hand and ultimately create something redemptive and unquestionably DIVINE..." As woo-woo as that all sounded, anyone with a heart beneath their shirt knows precisely what I'm trying to say in my own limited way and relying upon the barely adequate medium of language (Translation) "I'm done babbling."
