After using this mic for a day: Great clarity, mids are not scooped, bass is there, tight pick up pattern. Overall very impressive mic, condenser like sound in less than ideal situations. Great for podcasting (pop filter is a must), great for short videos and ad vides where extra clarity is needed, singing, spoken word and instruments. On the down side, it works well only on short distance like 10 cm, if you crack gain up and try to use it on like 15-20 cm, it sounds thin and picks up everything around. Also, it has plenty of high frequency boost, so it works well if you talk to it using 45 degree angle. Very impressive versatile mic, for this price it is absolutely no brainer for small studio and so on. Very smooth sound and also this mic is quiete enough (low noise floor), very easy to get clean studio like recording in just average treated room. (MG GM is also my account)

Yeah the optimal distance issue does appear to be quite common in a lot of the Chinese capsules, the proximity falls off like crazy when you back off a bit. Then it becomes too thin. Bearing that in mind I agree with you, this is really very good and a great deal!

I ordered one, I want to try it without windscreen, should be high-end monser! And the bass is there, I am excited!

Great let us know what you think. There’s plenty of bass and it’s in the right place. I feel I have the option to roll it off a bit with eq which is rare for a dynamic.

My friend have SM7B and i have small collection of cheap mics. I dont know why, but i prefer cheaper handheld microphones over professional broadcast mics. In my opinion-only one reason to buy broadcast mics over cheap handheld-richer proximity effect. For my ears even Shure pga48 and sv200 sounds better than SM7B, maybe i have bad preamp or maybe you need to scream on that mic. I have quiet voice...

Yes i think the last thing you want to do is feel like you have to force yourself to be louder. I find i need about 55dB of gain with the SM7B to feel comfortable, but unless your preamp is really good, that can sound hissy. I would never put the SM7B in front of a quiet guest voice. I think if you want the richer deeper sound, its maybe better to move to condenser, something like the Rode M3 is worth considering on a budget i think, it's quite flat response (mild presence boost) and a bit more sensitive but still good off-axis rejection. Really quite nice sounding mic, probably quite a bit smoother sounding than your PGAs. You can get them really cheap second hand.

Another great option is the Mackie EM91 - either usb or XLR version, I think it sounds incredible for $40 - dark and smooth, like a more expensive dynamic. Im always impressed when i listen to that one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4fQhWeemL2enpI

@@thedarksidemic I have se electronics dm1 and still, dont like sound of SM7B. Maybe because they was used with tape saturation, and because of that with new preamps they sound not like they was designed for. Preamp on mixer set on half gain. I prefer dynamic warmth over condenser. Mixer-behringer Xenyx 802. I was buying this mixer for saturated british eq and saturated preamp, some cheap vintage saturation. Ordered Prodipe tt1 instrument for 30 euro-black friday deal. Will see how it works.
