OMG!! These kids are GREAT! Fantastic energy and performance - as a father of a 25yr old son, I LOVED the guitarist's reaction to his sound/ feedback/ tones, etc. His joy and energy are infectious - and the drummer's playing was GREAT and solid - and the Hertas in the fills were slick AF. I'll be following this young group for sure - thx for another great video Phil/Warren!!

@@Madrrrrrrrrrrr I understand your POV - But this is a COVER - NOT an attempt at a "recreation" - when a trad Jazz quartet "takes out a song", ESPECIALLY from another genré, they NEVER set out to duplicate it - they INTERPRET, re-arrange, reimagine the song, while still paying homage to the musical inspiration the song gives them. Google: jazz version of Anthony Newman's "Pure Imagination" (a favorite of jazz musicians everywhere) - and what you are likely to find is some amazing takes on a beautiful melody and chord progressions - even without vocals. Perhaps you may not like heavy music, or even Jazz. Totally cool, but approaching a VERY creative cover such as this with an open mind can only help to expand one's appreciation of many musical styles. I definitely preferred this to Motley Crue's Helter Skelter - but bravo to them for putting their stamp on a killer classic 🤘🏻❤️

Hi Alex, I've got two questions for you as a user of the Tascam 24: 1) Can different fx's be used over the whole board - or even per channel - while simultaniously recording a band? 2) Is it posible in a live band situation to route all channels seperately into a DAW (instantly and/or later on) or just as a stereo recording?

@@meanmr.mustard hey I love the username lol. The effect you choose (typically a Reverb or delay) is across the board so it's not a per channel instance although the amount of the effect can be dialed per channel. As per your recording simultaneously within the unit and DAW itself is something that can be done. Just connect the USB, download their Tascam Driver, and you should be able to enable all 24 inputs for tracking a band. Tracks 1-12 are mono, 13-20 are stereo though channels 21,22 is a Bluetooth,rca or aux signal and channels 23,24 is the Mix output of the board. Just remember to press record on both the Computer for the DAW and on the Board for backup as I forgot to record both and lost a whole set for a band. Thank goodness it was only my band 😭

@@m.o.n.d.e.g.r.e.e.n you're cracking me up. I did the same with a PC running a hacked version of Win 9X/ME without the Explorer module (no internet browser). 21 years that machine has survived. Slow, heavy and replaced by a Macbook Pro in 2010. Once the flat screen monitors got cheap enough, dragging that tower around with a mouse and a keyboard wasn't so bad, for a young man that is.

I bought one when I realized that I wanted to go back to a more tactile felling when recording and also getting the itch to just make decisions and then live with them. One million possibilities in post just isn´t fun anymore. It is really versatile and will probably fit in a lot of different configurations and usages. For instance, I have found that it is a brilliant piece of gear for recording podcasts.

Having quite a few interviews with bigger groups on the horizon, a Tascam model, probably, 16 might be a great starting point to building out a dedicated sound case. Housing the board, the mics, the lavalier setups and the various tools going with that. And being able to just plug it in at home and make some music is a lovely bonus. Thanks for the video, there are so many options out there these days that it often is the accidental inspiration for a certain piece of gear that leads to the start of a new project.

I love the Tascam Model series. I bought the Model 12, because I prefer the digital mixer with all the advantages like using it as a DAW control. Although it looks like the 16 and 24, it is a bit different and fully digital. Despite the differences I prefer the Tascam to my more expensive interfaces, even to my analog SSL SiX. I love not having to use a computer and a mouse, just making music and pressing record. Use it at home everyday, used it as a small PA, used it for multitracking rehearsals. And one could still use a DAW later to finish a recording.

Been recording bands in my area with the model 24 for a couple years and done some live shows and it has been a wonderful tool to use. Make sure to update drivers if you are using it as an interface and have some extra SD cards on hand. It is picky on those so make sure to consult the manual for the correct ones. Channels 23 and 24 are always recording so it is a great rough mix for live performances.

It says a lot that most of these comments are as much about the band as the Tascam - it just quietly gets on with the job. My Korg D1600 multitracker has been doing the same for about 20 years. If it dies on me, it won't owe me anything.

The D1600 rules.. I used to have one, I loved it. I wish they still made them. The selection for standalone DAWs has gotten pretty sparce as most from the younger generations, and some older also, just aren't interested. This tascam 24 has been around for awhile and they are soooooo much cheaper than they used to be, I think the last time I looked, the average price was 499. Edit: I see there's 2 the 'model 24' for about 1200 and the DP-24 for 500. At quick glance both seem very similar but I'm sure I'm missing something.. About 600 worth of something! 😮

I’d like to see how each member has their own headphone mix playing live , also would like a video on how to hook up phone element to mixer. Great job. I’ve always said it’s about the Engineers knowledge of the equipment . They can make any equipment sound great. If you used the Beatles console/ equipment today nobody would know what to do, but listen to those results !!!!

Effing brilliant version. A friend has a Tascam 8 track portastudio because he’s not interested in DAWs or much engineering. Surprised to hear how good his recordings sound given basic gear and a small room. My amateur ears hear the default EQ and compression at about right for the space.

I use a Tascam Pocketstudio 8 track to record and Audacity software for mixing. With proper planning and thought, you can go well beyond the 8 channels of the Pocketstudio.

I don’t know if there is much carryover from the Model 24 and the Celesonic Interface but I have been using the Celesonic a bit and it too is solid and can be used as either a standalone preamp or mixer as well as interface with a nice app for control.

You can record all of the channels individually as well as a stereo mix. You can switch to playback and bring tracks back directly to the mixer if you do outboard mixing. It is pretty versatile. You should be able to get the manual from the Tascam website. It works very well.

Awesome video. I've been considering a Model 12 and this was a cool presentation of its big Daddy full throttle mode. Cool to see the Village Recorder here again and that giant reverb vault. I worked for a cartage company years ago and got to see all these amazing studios IRL and will never not feel completely grateful to experience being in these legendary rooms. Also killed so many slices of free pizza in that green room while waiting to strike gear too!

I bought a Tascam Model 24 shortly after the had come out. They certainly have their place, but don't rush out and buy one as your interface without doing your research first. If you plan on using a bunch of outboard in mixing it's not really the unit for you. If you need a mixer, it's a mixer. If you need a bunch of preamps to get tracks into the computer, it does that well enough. If you want good I/O or low latency in and out of the PC, it's not for you.
@JoeStopkaMusic
@JoeStopkaMusic Жыл бұрын
When you say latency issues - were you overdubbing or monitoring from the DAW? Because we have not heard this from anyone else
@legacyShredder1
@legacyShredder1 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeStopkaMusic I would have to go dig through my notes to give a thorough answer, but there were various circumstances where the latency proved to be an issue for us. Mapping the clicks when routing, comb filtering during monitoring on the output in combo with DAW output matrix, alignment issues when running I/O as hardware inserts, punching in and out. We were hopeful this unit could be an asset in our mobile rack units and in our affordable rooms. We found a lot of work arounds, but so much so that it wasn't viable for us. It certainly has it's place, though.

Indeed, Craig. That was a fun realization the day of the session, haha. But a good monitor control center or headphone amp with a talkback option is a quick fix.
