The BAE 500C is a FET style compressor that is reminiscent of the FET compressors you know and love from the 60’s and 70’s, but in a lovely 500 series rack format! As many of you know, I am a huge proponent of 500 series gear because of the flexibility that it gives you as a producer. Simply load up your lunchbox with your favorite, preamps, EQ’s and compressors and use them in your studio and when you find yourself at another studio or gig, pick it up and take it with you!
This compressor sounds fantastic! For the review we use the same song that we used for the Phoenix Audio compressor and ran a drum loop, a pair of guitars, a bass guitar and a vocal through it and it sounded great on them all!

The BAE 1073 pre amp is great.. I heard a demo today and it sounds exactly like a Neve 1073

As far as chassis, I recommend Radial. They have a great rep, awesome routing functionality, and a good price :)

Marvellous comment! I actually use ALL of them! The free Bomb Factory in Pro Tools gets used A LOT the Waves CLA also is AMAZING! Plus of course Steven Slate's emulations are all incredible! I don't have favourite! I usually start out reaching for the bomb factory because it's there and I know it, then when I come to mix I might audition the others and see what sounds best!

I think It is like all around compressor (4 comps in 1 unit) with features like high pass filter! Not all companies put hpf on compressors... I think high pass feature is revolutionary! This is a great compressor indeed!

@@zanem9022 I’ve always liked Wes Audio, great sounding gear! Tried very hard to support them when they launched, had a day set aside for filming with them, was very excited, however they cancelled on me last minute (for a channel that no longer exists) so unfortunately I only have limited knowledge! I know sent a lot of people over to their SSL bus compressor and a lot of our academy members bought it and loved it!

Produce Like A Pro That would be great, thanks :). Either way it sounds fantastic. I don't know if it's just a lack of practice, but I always find it easier to get a good sound from a hardware compressor then from a software plugin. Anyone else have that?

I think it sounds great it's missing one thing that would make it better. Wet/Dry Parallel option. Why would they not add this? Every new Comp coming out should have it. Other than that Sounds Great!

It's a rare 500 Series Analog Process unit which takes a Guitar Di and adds gain, flips phase etc and can go into an amp or straight to tape!

If even that seems quite steep to you, then what exactly did you mean by "The component cost of a unit might be 3-400$, but the casing might be twice as much"? :) Sounded like "twice as much" as the 3-400$. If you meant a 1RU case is twice as much as a 500-series case, that's sort of relative. I'm pretty sure 19" racks are much more widespread in use (and as such, possibly cheaper) than 500-series, anyway :)
