What is your favourite Red Ht Chilli Peppers Album or Song? Please share below!
@akagerhard

I will tell you what RHCP song is the realest and most honest to me: "Torture me". And I think it's very literal. I think many of the great artists have made experiences with the supernatural in one way or the other. I'm a very rational person and I don't believe in anything that I haven't experienced myself. There are things I can't explain, but I know them to be true and I hear some songs differently since. Some manage to love such experiences, as the RHCP obviously did, others can only survive it. In the words of Kanye West: "And you can live through anything if magic made it" (which has a double-meaning, one of them being that magic survived) So these are the lyrics to Torture me: Because I'm happy to be sad I want it all I want it bad Oh, it's what I know A vintage year for pop, I hear The middle of the end is near Let's go, oh, it's what I know Torture me and torture me Forcin' me so torture me, please Torture me with sorcery Forcin' me so torture me, please All the leaves are turning brown The wind is pushing me around Let's go, it's what I know Torture me and torture me It's forcin' me so torture me, please Torture me with sorcery Forcin' me so torture me, please The will of God is standing still Brazilian children get their fill Let's go Let's turn it up and dumb it down The vision of your ultra sound Is so And all the leaves are turning brown The wind is pushing me around Let's go A vintage year for pop I hear The middle of the end is near It's so Torture me and torture me It's forcin' me so torture me, please Torture me with sorcery Forcin' me so torture me, please Torture me and torture me It's forcin' me and so torture me, please Torture me with sorcery Forcin' me so torture me, please Sonically I prefer "Snow". Gerhard has a common taste.

My favorite Album is Californication, the song I like the best is Dani California followed not far behind by Tell Me Baby, what apparently makes Stadium Arcadium to my second favorite RHCP album :-) By the way, although John Frusciante is one of my favorite guitar players, I think the most underrated of their albums is One Hot Minute. Very good songs and great guitar work by Dave Navarro.

Hewitt just went way up the food chain of engineer/mixers. Hit it out of the park on this record. Manages to sound classic (80s & 90s RHCP) and totally modern at once. Excellent sounds, clarity. Not a frequency out of place. Great drums. Very intetesting close ambience. Excellent guitars too.

Also, just wanna say, Ryan's enthusiasm for the art of sound engineering and music generally really comes through in this interview. It's great to hear someone like him speak like a kid in a candy store about an art he's been practicing for more than two decades. This album gets better with every listen.. it actually started as a B-Tier album for me on the first listen. its easily an S-Tier album by now. I absolutely love The heavy wing. hearing john sing the chorus is like your old best friend appearing at your wedding. and for the past 48 hours ive had Veronica stuck in my head and i dont mind it. it can stay there rent free as long as it likes 😄

Thank you both for this wonderful piece.. Big fan of stadium arcadium and excited to hear john influence on the new album. Haven't had the chance to really sit down and listen, but will tomorrow. Sheryl crow, smashing pumpkins, from petty and the list goes on.. I can't imagine the stories you have . Love to still see the excitement you have for the job and the level of engineering, amazing work keep it up!

Love that story about punching in. That was just how it was done. I think it was a right of passage back in the day to be yelled at by the producer for missing a punch in! Yay for tape!

The Uplift Mofo Party Plan was how I got turned on to them, many decades ago, I love it still. Saw them for Blood Sugar Sex Magik and was blown away. The production for that is off the wall. One Hot minute I absolutely LOVE too. Mothers Milk, good grief so GOOD! Sorry, I cant decide!

I love watching a good analog puncher work, they all have a different punch “chair dance” aside from those who actually stand

Mark Coyle, was the oasis engineer. Great lad know him well. I worked with The Real People at the time, Liverpool band who wrote a lot of the first oasis album.

@@Producelikeapro that would really be cool of you bud, the world should know more about Mark. he's a great guy, also Owen Morris who gets a bit to much of the credit but Mark did most of the work. I know a few folks who are in touch with him regularly so ill see what I can do about getting him in touch with you. Such a great interview with Ryan, you can really tell he hung out in the UK for some time, that sense of humour is brutal haha . Cheers Warren love your work mate
