About Simon... he can be "musical god" but it doesn't matter, because he almost destroyed them especially Zayn. So, I'm a new Niall fan. Like since Christmas time when I saw him on SNL. I'm obsessed with his albums and covers. Since there's no new music really I've been going back into 1D discography and watching these 1D album reactions and I find myself unreasonably ticked off at the lack of Niall content. Is it just me? His vocals are amazing, strong and versatile. I can hear him giving backbone to the harmonies and sometimes carrying the melodies in Made in the AM when Harry's ad libbing. But the earlier stuff. Some of the boys get multiple verses or verses and chorus. Why didn't they spread that out? Louis too. Where are they? When Niall did start getting (a bit) more to do starting with Midnight Memories they either produced a lot of the personality out of his vocals or toned them way down. The difference in the strength and texture of his vocals are night and day if you compare studio to live performances. I don't get it. Okay. I'm done. **steps of soapbox**

Amen, sister. I can understand the first album, they weren't sure of the success, so they played it safe and utilized mostly the best (Liam) and most powerful (Zayn and Harry) singers. I can maybe see the reason (even if shitty and stupid) behind the near absence of Louis' solos on TMH, since he has a voice that's completely different from the rest of the boys. He also doesn't have a huge range (btw I blame the management at least partly for that bc I'm pretty sure they didn't care and just gave him the same vocal training as other boys. they're baritones. he's a light tenor), so he wasn't the best choice for high notes and ad libs. They decided to make songs suited for the other boys and throw Louis on bridges, where the tone difference isn't so jarring. Fuck them for that by the way. But why not Niall?! His pitch control got way better by 2012, he's got nice, strong, even voice and his tone is similar to Harry, Liam and Zayn. He can add nice rasp to his voice and could easily replace Harry on most of his verses on TMH (I mean he would fit on them, they had pretty similar voices). He thrives vocally on rock-esque stuff. SO WHY THE FUCK NOT?

in the early stages of 1d, the team wouldn't let zayn change a note (if it wasn't live) because it didn't fit the "sound" that management wanted. so if he wanted to make something sound rnb or add adlibs, he would just end up doing what the team wanted.
