Thanks for the question. Our product specialist and new Facebook Live host, Emmy Kline says.."I honestly didn't know off the top of my head, so I grabbed both pastels brands and gave them a test! The Mungyo is harder than the Rembrandt, but only by a very small amount. I had to go back and forth between them to really tell a difference." Thanks

Is the extra fine better?

Thank you for contacting us and asking this important question. I am going to use your question to explain the difference between all of the Mungyo soft pastel levels. The Mungyo Artists' Soft Pastel Squares are student grade in quality and are made with fine pigments and calcium carbonate. www.jerrysartarama.com/mungyo-gallery-soft-pastel-square-sets The Square pastels have decent lightfastness ratings compared to the other two lines. Mungyo Gallery Extra-Fine Soft Pastels are artist-grade in quality and are also made with the finest pigments and calcium carbonate. The Gallery Extra-Fine Soft Pastels are of higher lightfastness than the Square pastels. www.jerrysartarama.com/mungyo-gallery-soft-pastel-sets Mungyo Gallery Handmade Soft Pastels are professional-artist-grade in quality and made with the finest pigments and kaolin clay. The Handmade Pastels are made with less binder than machine-made pastels. Gallery Handmade Soft Pastels are truly the top of the line. Since these pastels are completely handmade, less binder is required to hold the pigment together, making for a much softer pastel with tremendous blending capabilities. The pigments themselves are of superior quality, with the highest lightfastness ratings, ensuring your artwork remains brilliant over time. www.jerrysartarama.com/mungyo-gallery-handmade-soft-pastels I hope this information is helpful

how is this different from the round mungyo soft pastel set? is it just the shape or is there a difference in quality?
@val_28284 жыл бұрын
As far as I know , the round ones are presumably hand made pastels, they are bit softer coz of the binders used ( don't know if they use same or different binders to bind the pigments and the fillers/base ) and they are more expensive than the square ones .

@@zenytegio5956 Actually, it is not oil pastels, but soft pastels, semi-hard pastels. Just got them today and they are really nice.

Thank you for contacting us Strange Arrangements. We apologize for taking so long to get back to you. Mungyo Artists' Soft Square Pastels do contain calcium carbonate, which is one of the main ingredients of most chalks. However Mungyo Artists' Soft Square Pastels also contain the finest pigments. The soft pastel sticks produce vivid & smooth colors on paper. Unlike soft pastels, common chalk is a soft, fine-grained, easily pulverized, white-to-grayish variety of limestone. Chalk is composed of the shells of such minute marine organisms as foraminifera, coccoliths, and rhabdoliths. The purest varieties of chalk contain up to 99 percent calcium carbonate in the form of the mineral calcite.

And they smell like kerosene 🤣
@JerrysartaramaArtSupply3 жыл бұрын
I have never noticed a smell connected to our Mungyo Gallery Artists' Soft Square Pastels. Some oil pastels do have an odor, but to me, they smell more like wax. It's possible that the pastel set you received has been stored next to something that had an odor, and perhaps the box absorbed the scent? Try taking a few sticks away from the box and air them out for a few days to see if the odor dissipates.
