In part 1 of this review we talk about the Delkim EV Plus bite alarm. We show you you some of the accessories that are available and take a close-up look at the actual alarm and it's features.
The Delkim EV Plus is the "entry" level alarm in the "plus" range.
Other models in the range are the Standard Plus (the additional level of sensitivity control) and the grand daddy of them all, the TXi Plus (with built in wireless transmitter).
I have been using the Delkim EV Plus bite alarms now for about 6 months, having switched over from the traditional roller-wheel style alarms. I must say, I am pretty darn impressed.
The Delkim is ultra sensitive but allows for fine adjustment to prevent false bite indications depending upon the conditions.
A number of people have complained that the Delkim is too sensitive, however, that's why you have that sensitivity control. I usually have mine set at sensitivity 3 or 4, adjusting up/down depending on the wind, wave action, nuisance line bites - only on a very calm day, if I am fishing at medium to long range, do I crank them all the way up to maximum to detect the most subtle vibration or pick-up.
The Delkim EV Plus alarm is pretty darn loud, it can be wound up to an ear piercing 100gb - quite useful when fishing in windy conditions so you can still hear the speaker sound. I usually keep mine set between 1 or 2, plenty loud enough for me!
The alarm has adjustable tone control, useful if you want to differentiate between multiple alarms on your pod, or from other alarms sounding out there on the bankside. I prefer tone 3 or 4 - which results in a reasonable pitched beep and thrilling run sound.
Battery life is excellent from a single 9v, I have been using these alarms heavily and they are still on the original batteries.
The latch/run LEDs are super bright. I have fished at night with the Delkim's and have had no issues seeing the alarm lights through the darkness. There is nothing better than hearing the Delkim screaming with a run and the LED's blazing away in the darkness!
The Delkim EV plus does have the capability to be hook up to the additional TX Micro Plus transmitter module, which turns this into a fully wireless alarm solution.
For a price point of ~$80, this is a high end alarm for the money and is backed by a 2 year warranty from Delkim.
In part 2 of this review I will go over some of the accessories in more detail, show you have to install them and how they work.
Tight-Lines,
John
