The gold ligature was brighter than the others, and I liked that sound but I really preferred the Rovner ligature sound - it made the lower notes warm. The carbon ligature seemed to make a stronger sound and the blue one seemed unpleasantly artificial to me.
@cathy_clarinet2 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick! Thanks for saying that. It’s hard to tell on your own playing. I like my Rovner also. Always go back to it, and largely because I can take the mpc off without disturbing the reed. That’s important to me

My ears have me liking the Carbon Fiber... it has a little more ring in the should than your dark Rover and the New Gold Eddie Daniels. But the Blue ED ligature had the most center of all the ligatures you tried. So, for its a toss up between the Carbon Fiber and the Blue.....BTW, you sound very good

Thanks 😊 johnasti! I appreciate you coming by to listen. The real test would be a blind study, but I wasn’t sure how to make a video like that; in fact I still need to think that over! I appreciate you 🙏🤘

Very nice demo. The Rovner was my least favorite... it muffled the sound too much. I loved the gold plated one and blue one... they matched up well with your dark sound and you sounded much more fluid and clear. I heard a little darkening of the sound with the carbon fiber ligature... this would work well for brighter sounding mouthpieces and/or bright sounding acoustics. I'm a saxophonist and I sometimes have to change my setup depending on the acoustics of wherever I'm playing. I use my darker sounding mouthpiece and/or reeds for bright acoustics and I will use my brighter sounding mouthpiece and /or reeds for dark sounding acoustics.

Hi Mark! Thanks for coming by and leaving some insightful comments. I think a lot of us end up tweaking our equipment to a particular venue. It’s a real advantage for those musicians who rehearse and perform in a certain hall most of the time. I also liked the blue a lot, probably my favorite. There is wisdom in using them for different pieces and sounds. The ligatures are all pretty close. I end up mostly using the Rovner because it holds the best, for me. I have to have that. But if I’m just playing at home I can use anything. In fact maybe I’ll use the blue on the next recording. Thanks again!! 🎶🙂
@markwhite-what-da-jazz7 ай бұрын
@@cathy_clarinet Yes, I know exactly what you mean. At one gig, I grabbed my mouthpiece to change the tuning just before my solo and my special Marc Jean ligature came off. After that gig, I sanded down my neck cork a little. I have a few of the ligatures that you demoed. I use the carbon fiber one on my soprano sax and alto sax. I was using the gold plated one on my tenor and bari, but then I fell in love with the Brancher wire ligature on my tenor and I am now amazed at the clear sound I am getting on my bari sax by using a $15 plastic ring ligature.

Thanks for posting Cathy. So hard to tell listening through my computer speakers. I do like more of a darker/richer (less brilliant) sound on the clarinet. So with that being said, which one do you prefer?? Also any trouble using your clrinet cap with these new ligatures?
@cathy_clarinet9 ай бұрын
I like my Rovner best; it sounds just as good, but I can remove the mouthpiece with the reed intact. With the ED models, the ligature slipped if I pulled the mpc off. Other than that, they played equally well. I think I liked the sound of the blue one best. Thanks for reaching out.
