An extra small note: I was informed it's not named AFTER Hikaru, The owner of Hario just named it that. And the tank is MADE OF triton (not coated in). Also I say Flat bed a ton And I mean to say flat bottom (regarding brewers) The EARLY BIRD PRICE: 399 The final MSRP price will be 650

They just released the kickstarter today. I backed it and was hoping to see some reviews before hand. Glad at least someone came out with a video going over the machine. I was hoping there was a built in scale below the brewer but having one in the water tank makes sense.

Glad you gave us an honest first hands on video, looks intriguing but the price tag kills it for me. I can stick to manual v60 brews for less than half that price and still get the control I want. Kind of feel like I might end up disappointed in having an automatic machine but I still have to do swirls and more manual stuff because the machine can't do everything itself in order for it to get the cup the way I want it exactly.

OMG I knew I recognized this shape in the world but couldn't place it. HARP for sure! Yeah i think hotels are Prime for automatic specialty brewers. It helps this one has very hotel aesthetic.

If Hario is following comments here, I'd like to make one which the machine may already incorporate. But first let me tell you of a first world problem I have with my wonderful Breville two long slotted toaster. When the toast is done there is this gentle kind of electronic "ding" to let me know the little critters are waiting for me. BUT, I have a larger kitchen and I only hear the ding occasionally. And I like the ding feature. I then thought to myself why didn't they include some kind of control over the dinger to make it louder or softer this way it would ding with enough authority in a small, medium or large kitchen. Ditto with this coffee machine. Is the little tune loud enough for a large kitchen, if so then is it too loud for a small kitchen. Help preserve coffee brewer's sanity and give them control of the dinger - power to the people!

It’s mostly hiroia on the project but yes hario is a larger company. I could also say the same for timemore. There are so many companies using kickstarter as product launches( I don’t agree with it personally) but I think it is probably a proof of concept with low risk for companies that might be nervous to launch a new product or actually need the funds. But idk anything 😂I just put hot water on fermented seeds.

I could have sworn I commented a few days ago but I dont' see it. Prolly too late now, but if you're into sushi/seafood, "Aquatic Addiction" in Taipei is one of my favorite places I can think of. Cute shop, grocery store, sushi bar attached to a seafood market.

Interesting. I actually was recently in the market for an automated pourover due to 6am George not being very good at concentration or anything else really. However I settled on the Chemex Ottomatic not that long ago.

Very nice video, thanks! I feel like the price tag is a bit high seeing as it is, in essence, just a programmable drip machine. Was hoping to see some xBloom-type features, such as spiral pouring. I feel like if this had spiral pouring, it would be a very tempting and competitive product

These are great points! I feel maybe both xbloom and this are on the pricey side 😅 Those kickstarter deals are very fair imo but it can get steep quick.

I heard many good things about Samantha, but the device is so expensive. If this has the same utility as that but cheaper I would be really interested. Also at this early bird price point it's cheaper than a Moccamaster and has more functionality, so kind of a better deal at least from where I'm from.

I keep wondering what the appeal of this brewer is at 600 usd compared to my Stagg EKG, since being consistent on the V60 is not particularly hard - certainly way easier than hitting that microfoam right every single time. Maybe thats why it's a kickstarter, for Hario to check whether enough people would buy it to rationalize producing this on masse. Either way, Emilee Hoffmann ftw, you are my goddess!

Hi Emily Hoffmann (😜), I am actually quite curious about your personal opinion. It's gonna be a bit long, but I would highly appreciate your insight. Anyway we look at the Hikaru, even at its lowest price it's 400$+90$ shipping +taxes which makes it really an expensive option compared to a cheap 200$ pour-over machine. Is it worth paying more than double the price for a machine like this? I love my aeropress and I drink 2 of them (~250ml) during the day. (Otherwise espresso all the way 💪) I've never really had as good as a filter coffee as it comes from aeropress, I allways felt them lacking. But I want to cut down on the time when it comes to preparing coffee during work and I'm contemplating Hikaru as an option for it. As you tested it, I hope you might be able to help me. Can I achieve as good as a result on it (by tweeking and all) as I've got with the Aeropress (Aramse method) or a V60 will never be able to get to that high of an extraction and taste? I get the consistency of Hikaru, I see it as a miniature Samantha, which is highly praised online for that in commercial settings. But Xbloom at the same price range seems like a similar option, with more automated function. When it comes to 1-cup filter results, are they comparable? When looking at efficiency of brewing a good coffee, is one or the other way ahead? Two different approach to the same goal as I see it. Thanks in advance!

What about low-volume use of this in a commercial setting? Does anybody have other similar recommendations that would work for that? My roaster got a Modbar pour over machine, which is pretty expensive

If you decide to go commercial it might be worth looking into the Samantha 2 (essentially the same thing for commercial settings but also plumbed in) It’s more expensive closer to 1600 I think, but way cheaper than modbar
