Hi friends- I’ve had some time with this yarn after posting this video and I have additional thoughts and opinions that I’d love to share. I plan on posting a podcast episode tonight where I’ll include that info. Thanks!!! 🙏

Your diplomacy was admirable, I just got the sense that you wanted to give them a thumbs up for their effort, in reality, it’s a gimmick that may not be satisfactory for some. ❤

For me personally, I hate playing yarn chicken.. it gives me such anxiety.. This yarn for me, would be yarn chicken EVERY ROUND... Some people may find this acceptable but it would drive me batty... I have NO problem changing yarns myself at the end of each round.. For me this yarn is gimmicky and a big thumbs down.

@JuanTheYarnAddict - thanks for your review! I don’t enjoy a Granny Square with that many holes. They make afghans that are . . . breezy 😆 I am interested to see what other patterns can be made with this yarn. You’re just the one to tame it, if so!

I RESPECT the Left Handed ✋ 👏 ❤❤❤!!! MY precious Daddy was born in 1924 & He was also Left Handed ❤. Even as a little Girl it absolutely brought tears to my eyes as He told us 5 Girls about being slapped/smacked with a ruler across His Left Hand & knuckles being forced to use his right hand 💔😭! I am Right Handed but I actually prefer & love watching Juan's Left Handed over His Right Handed ❤❤❤!

Although I do not mind Red Heart yarns, I do not think this is a yarn for me - one is the price point - being Canadian our price will be around $14 or more! And two, I crochet to relax, I think this would stress me out worrying about making sure the colour change works out😂 btw - I love all of videos!

Thanks Juan. Since I’m not committed to a particular Granny Square pattern, you simplified things for me ❤Other reviewers were too insistent on forcing their granny philosophy onto this fun yarn 🧶 making things waaay too complicated. Like you, I thought it would be necessary to adjust hook size and follow the pattern 👍🏻I found a great sale on Joanns and bought a few colors that I’m excited to try!

The second drawback, as Juan pointed out, is that they're using too many chains for the corners and between the clusters.

The yarn is pretty, and the idea is interesting, but I could see that even when you follow their instructions to the letter there would always be a challenge where you have too little or too much yarn remaining based on how tightly or loosely you crochet. Thanks for the demo and review. It was really helpful😍

My point is, through crying every day, your channel and watching you makes me smile, and gives me peace, i love yarn too and love to crochet, ive been crocheting since August, Crystal 🔮 taught me. If you creep into the next color, try: A: fuss with the tension --or B: frog the "bad" row, and sneak out a few of those chains that you didn't want to include anyway.
@deboraharmstrong3002
@deboraharmstrong3002 7 ай бұрын
You mentioned that you prefer to not do the chain between 3DC clusters. You're right, omitting that chain makes for tighter work, but the advantage of putting them in is that the work lies a bit flatter.

If you did go with a smaller square, you could make a second set of squares with the remaining length, they wouldn't be a new color every row, but they'd be consistently mixed color rows. It would be the same as making two different squares for one big blanket. Might be interesting.

Hi Juan. That was fun! I’m a lefty, too! And a great review. Do you know “Mikey” from Canada? He works for yarnspirations and spent months helping to develop this yarn. Then he did a review here on Utube. Just like you, he said you must be aware of your tension, and change hook sizes as needed. Mikey also offered added advice for on the spot issues. When you see on side 4 that you are coming up to the last corner with too little or too much of that specific colored yarn left, frog back only side 4 to corner 3, switch your hook up or down as needed, and redo just side 4. I think I might try the yarn. Thank you and have a great week.

Thanks, Juan, for trying out this yarn so I don’t have to! 😂 ❤Great review, but I’m not sure you convinced me. High price (comparatively) and limited application doesn’t seem like a winning combination. For this to work, I have to have the right size hook, the right kind of tension, and make the square exactly according to specs … resulting in a gap-toothed granny with holes big enough to drive an oil tanker through. Hmmm … 🤣🤣🤣 But it was sure fun watching you wrestle with it!! You’re the best!❤

Fantastic!! You are a left-handed crocheter!! My friend is left-handed and he doesn't want to expand his horizons due to his "leftie" block. I was supposed to be left-handed but my mother wouldn't have it. lol. I do things both left and right-handed but not needle work. Secondly, I learned from you that they made a thread to change colours per round. Who knew?? What's next a warning label on your coffee that it's hot?? 50 years of needle craft under my belt here.

I always like seeing reviews of new yarn. I will admit I've never been fond of Red Heart yarns... even after washing and drying they are just too scratchy for me, not soft enough. I think I got spoilt on Caron Simply Soft! Having said that, I don't think I would purchase ANY all in one granny square yarn, for many reasons. 1- Most importantly, I don't get to choose the colors. One of the main reasons why I like doing granny square blankets, is because I tend to use up my scrap yarns from other projects, and I make something totally unique. I weave my ends as I go (I have a unique technique for that), so that's not a factor for me. Using a yarn that's all in one granny... my blanket is going to be just like the next person that chooses the same colorway as I did... and that's just not my thing. 2- I HATE playing yarn chicken. I crochet to relax, and trying to match tension every time to be able to get the perfect granny square every time is NOT relaxing. 3 - I almost never use the recommended hook size, because I tend to prefer a drapier fabric when I crochet. I will deliberately crochet looser than called for so that my end product isn't so stiff (I also tend to crochet tighter than most). I wouldn't be able to do that and keep up with the color changes. 4 - Like you, I don't put all the chain spaces in my granny squares. I like the tighter less defined holes in a granny square blanket. Obviously I wouldn't be able to do that with this yarn. I'm sure there are those out there that will LOVE this idea. I have nothing against those that do. For me, I think I will just stick to what I do now...

I got my 14 squares out of the Granny Square yarn plus a few rounds into a 15th… basically if I maintained my tension (got on a roll) things went ok. I have a feeling that each color is not exactly the same length in each section. I was crocheting with my “formula “ but I found some sections or squares that the same colors from square to square were not working out the same. Only way to prove would be to physically measure each “square “ or “section” in a skein to be sure. Just easier to frog and adjust tension. I’m one that does not mind frogging.. I will continue to buy keeping all this in mind 💜
