"The other day, I went to the Noguchi Museum in Takamatsu, and it was very impressive." It was a good opportunity to get a glimpse of his spirit.

Beautiful. When you consider how much goes into making them, they are worth every penny.

The same way it was put together, but each piece gets slid out through the hole in the lantern.

same... came here for that cuz i'm trying to design a form that i'll preferably be able to get out once it's finished XD

Amazing artist. Thank you for sharing this with me. I watch every video i find of these lanterns being made. I do have a question, though. Is the cord done in a continuous wrap, or are the different sizes cut as you go?

i think it's washi paper and methyl cellulose... from what i've heard... (doesn't mean it's the only way tho)

@@annalisazimmermann4019hi, do they also spray it with water after gluing? I saw another vitra video where they do it. Do you know how thick the paper is? Thank you
@annalisazimmermann40193 ай бұрын
@@aiandtechexpert idk tbh... tho i don't think that spraying water on it after gluing is gonna do any good... i think it could rip... (do you know which video that was? sounds interesting!) the paper is really thin but still kinda sturdy (you can go into some kind of japan store where they have similar lamps and just touch the stuff... i doubt the paper in modern lamps is much different than in traditional ones...) as a diy idea: i've been saving the paper our local bakery wraps their bread in, to try and make a lamp out of them... we'll see how that goes ^^

And then Ikea yoinks the design and makes the lamps 7eur.. Of course the quality and love is nowhere near this level but still it is just so wrong.

That still doesn’t explain why they’re so unbelievably expensive
@tomaszmaterna5071Ай бұрын
Hours spend on the project, countless prototypes, investment behind the production, marketing, brand positioning, 6 working hours of a trained professional. Maybe that will explain the price tag? If you can’t afford or won’t pay for that I can recommend IKEA, they are great at mass production and budget friendly products. Everyone is so smart until they realize that things cost money and designer brands still have to make some profit from low scale production…
