Perfect video to watch first thing in the morning. Gives me lots of hope for this new garden location I'm in my second season of working on. Thankfully since I'm in the southern United States barely had a winter at all. It was supposed to snow today actually, but it's just rain.

I love volunteers, although sometimes they can get overwhelming and need to be thinned. You just never know what is going to pop up anywhere in the yard or garden with compost and birds spreading seeds in addition to them just dropping or catching a ride on a breeze. Such a lovely garden and so productive.

As a former commercial beekeeper, I still keep a lot of flowering plants, including trees and shrubs. Many of them are selected not only for the pollinators, but for being a host plant for butterflies. Adjacent to vegetable garden area is a 30'x40' butterfly garden, and one posts between them are numerous native bee houses to attract the native bee population.

I am amazed how you can have squash and poppies at the same time. Our summers are so hot, the poppies are long gone by the time squash is just starting. I love the flowers as well. Makes the soul happy 🥰

Your garden is rich in fruits and vegetables, including flowers. I haven't detected any signs of pests in the garden, it's really nice to see the panoramic view of your garden, it's like a beautiful picture of a garden with a neat and careful arrangement.

I"m in the US and it always amazes me when people wonder where the bees and butterflies are when they are surrounded by grass, I have no use for grass and its taken me over 20 years to get my husband to just not hate my gardens everywhere. I do need to just add more flowers as well. I can't seem to get hollyhocks to grow but marshmallow loves my gardens. Any tips on hollyhocks?
@rosehavenfarm296910 ай бұрын
Charming. We have flowers in all our gardens, too. I also strew seeds in other places as the last task while putting the gardens to bed for the winter. It's fun to see what will come up.

I found an old mangel grater in an old barn. Mangel is what they call sugar beets in Canada at least. I was told you had to grate the beets for the livestock to be able to easily digest the beets. It had a big hand crank and rotating teeth inside.

Lovely video. I subscribe to Saronne's tube and have made her mixed bean and beetroot salad.Yum. I'm fortunate to have a random planted and natural flower border next to my allotment plot but I'm also gradually adding more flower areas amongst the veg. Up here on the Westmorland/Lancashire border it's probably even wetter than mid Wales?

I would like having something like this as i'm living in Kent UK, but I have too many foxes inside my garden unfortunately, I can only probably create a giant enclosure with pallets, including a roof, as these seams climb very easily fences ad sheds, in fact couple of these animals sleeps on my shed roof all the time :)

I wish I _had_ 0.2 acres... Seriously, I have more than most, with a gross area of 160yds² or 0.033 of an acre used for fruit & vegetables. I can't afford to grow flowers & non essentials as every inch of space is needed for food (heck, I even have potato tubs on top of my compost bays...). PLEASE can we have more content relevant to those who don't have masses of space available.

You can go verticle too with cumbers, beans etc. And pots are good for growing in with composting underneath your growing medium.

@HuwRichards10 ай бұрын
Of course not! But pointless trying to do EVERYTHING by yourself. Focus on what grows well in your climate, and source the last tidbits. Arguably you don't have to have wheat, and oil used to be in the form of tallow and butter etc back in the day
@LostInThisGardenofLife10 ай бұрын
A garden without flowers is depressing. 🫣
@HuwRichards10 ай бұрын
Exactly! One quick way of adding flowers is just letting some of your veg run to seed: radish, leeks, kale, fennel etc. And growing already beautiful crops like runner beans helps too
