Since college I have made regular retreats at two Benedictine monasteries in New Mexico. Also back in college, I had the pleasure of doing the dishes with Br. David Steindl-Rast. Since that time, I have often said that Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian monks have more in common with each other than they do with the rest of us. This confirms my impression. Thank you for such a concise and pertinent reminder of what matters!

It is such a simple concept. All the negativity in our mind is only "negative" because we make an identity out of it. They are only bad because they are _ours_ - we don't have to own them though

I read this book a earlier this year and it really has changed my life. I still pick it up and read parts of it almost everyday to keep me focused and grounded. They key is to do the exercises which can be hard but very necessary to get the most out the book.

To the *incredible person* seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn the skills needed and get after it, all the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Keep pushing.

Magnificent person reading this… The truth is you are confident and good enough already with who you are, where you are at and what you have right now to have the success you want in life. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn that skill and go after it! I believe in you so much! Have an awesome day! - Love, Nat ❤️

This sounds like a religion, love/forgive those who hurt you? The problem with this belief system is that it allows those in high places to perform actions without much consequence from the general populace. While I agree with the let it go if you can't take action, we must still learn and share when others do things to hurt us.. #Me2

While good things should be acquired from all sorts of people & Jay should be no exception to that. If his work helps someone great but on deeper inspection, i think this man doesn't embody the principles he propagates: 1 - Jay talks about letting go of societal expectations yet he plagiarizes on other hardworking writers/philosophers' work in order to fulfil his expected image of a good writer in the society. 2 - Talk about emotional attachments? The only thing this guy is attached to is making WISDOM GO VIRAL. Period. Nothing wrong about the process of that but a lot of the things he yaps about are hollow with no actual content or are flawed in real life sense. 3- Use of words like "Yoni", "Dharma", "Upasana", etc are used by Jay to capture western crowds who are naive enough to see where his meta-philosophy is being derived from. Almost all of the things he conveys are copied from Indian Mythological scriptures & Hindu philosophy. This isn't wrong but taking religious principles & calling them as your own "learnings as a monk" while marketing them as your "message to the helpless" is not such an enlightened thing to do. A mugger like this should not be entertained for any reason whatsoever. Finally, while a lot of good things can be gathered from Jay's work i think the moral implications of promoting/buying works of a fraud & immoral person like him to improve ourselves underweighs the responsibility of promoting a crook like him. We as learners of knowledge should be wary of that. Thanks!

I totally agree. It's sad that the western masses buy into this. Like you said, some of the information is good but it's not his.. he has simply copied and repackaged it. Others that come to mind, Joe Dispenza, Eckhart Tolle, Tony Robbins.

My culture which used to teach this before invasions. Now, people are reluctant to use these practices thanks to materialistic pleasures of the western world dumped upon us! No disrespect to the western cultures, but people of ours has lost the essentials of non materialistic life which was the core of Eastern philosophy!
