I know that Putin used the threat of a NATO offensive to start a war, but before that the threat of a color revolution in Russia was broadcast to defeat the opposition, and before that he quoted Stolypin (premiere of the early 20th century): “Give the State 20 years of peace, internal and external, and you won’t recognize today’s Russia.” I am aware that gifted manipulators can create a huge number of threats in pursuit of their own goals.

I've never understood why Ukraine gave up her sovereignty and sold out to the Western slaveholders. Ukraine had unlimited cheap gas from Russia. They paid for Russian gas far less than the rest of Europe. Ukraine could trade with whom ever they wanted. They had good trade deals with China and Russia. That all ended with the Maidan coup. And Ukraine was a debt free country after she gained independence.

The alternative to mearsheimer I believe would be Ukraine becoming a landlocked rump nato state relying on further mass support economically and militarily. Is that really in our interest? I don’t know if the Russians would let that rump state even keep Kiev let alone Odessa. We aren’t negotiating from a position of power here.

Anyone can say they are a leader by using Make America Great Again, and then not walk the walk which is exactly what did happen. Trump did all that campaigning, then on day one in 2017 as Prez, with video proof, let the worst tyrants in history walk away Scot free. The consequences that day were exactly what came right back AGAIN and ripped our country to shreds with even more extensive damage done and lives lost than the first time. And don't think the rest of the world didn't see it also. They sure did. None of that blame and that much blood of lives lost is on the hands of the people.

Well, Mearsheimer is right on spot, as usual. With one major exception. He claims that Russia doesn't have a powerful enough military to occupy the whole of Ukraine if necessary. Really! I mean Russia has no intention to occupy western Ukraine, but theoretically Russia with its nuclear weapons and hypersonic missiles could easily wipe western Ukraine off the map. But Russia is against using its full, apocalyptic military power against a Slavic country like Ukraine. It could, but it won't. Only when Russia's very existence is threatened, will she unleash its devastating weapons. Also, Russia is constantly developing new, advanced military technologies and has practically an endless supply of young Russians, willing to fight for Mother Russia. No other country, I'd argue, has that kind of patriotic fervor.
