Help! I just got sucked into a video posted 11 years ago for a painting program that was on a computer I never owned back in the day and got my mind blown by the capabilities of something that basically combined Photoshop, Flash and Illustrator in one go back in 1989!
@mixchief4 жыл бұрын
I used to live in this program in the late 80s. It was so ahead of its time and many features are still impressing to this day.

@@ChristopherSobieniak Yep when they became vintage and more rare. A lot of computers from that era are quite pricey to buy on ebay. Some computers you can't even find on ebay any more like the Atari Falcon which likely would be in the thousands now I imagine.

My first computer was the Commodore 64 and then the Amiga which blew my mind. Loved Deluxe Paint and creating rubbish games in Amos Basic. Even once sent one to Bullfrog in Guildford but they didn't bite.
@Vebinz2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewdevereux1288 You still have that game?
@matthewdevereux12882 жыл бұрын
@@Vebinz Alas no, long gone. I remember trying to write one based on the Spanish Civil War which was a bit like the Amiga game North and South. I did a lot on the graphics in Deluxe Paint but never made the game work very well. Then I made one based on being a politician in British politics and having to get elected and then form a government. The problem I faced was that the games I tried to code were far too ambitious for my limited Amos Basic skills!!!

that halfbrite thing is just badass, it's like using a multiply layer but waaaay ahead of its time. damn.

I develop a modern (text art) animation and drawing program for Unix, and I still look to Deluxe Paint for ideas and inspiration. Thanks for this video! The clips of Dan Silva are particularly interesting, as is the tutorial material from Jeff Bruette.
@TokyoScarab Жыл бұрын
As someone who has used photoshop for 15 years, the amount of quick, handy features is honestly really impressive! That bouncing ball animation they create at the end would require so much more time to make in modern software and probably require the use of at least 1 or 2 other programs to help speed up the process XD

The video opening credits at 0:13 ... that's real-time animation from 1989 with the technology of an Amiga 500. Nothing was cut or faded in there. As you can see the animation here, it was played in real time from the RAM memory until 0:43 ! That was absolutely high-end at the time and had totally fascinated me and almost knocked me out. Then in 1990 I had my first Amiga 500 and Deluxe Paint III ... believe me ... I couldn't get away from the computer. And then I had invested a lot of money in RAM memory, hard drive and a 14 MHz turbo card. So DPaint was already a revolutionary program and it is actually sad that this program has never been ported for the PC. Because I think the concept of DPaint is actually timeless. If DPaint had been ported and further developed after the Amiga era ... I could well imagine that this program would only have a lot of users today. 😉 So I can say of myself that I only bought my first Amiga because of the Tutankhamun advertisement for DeluxePaint ... although I already owned an Atari ST and hadn't used it anymore because of my first Amiga.

This is my first time to used any versions of DeluxePaint in Amiga 500, also available in MS-DOS (which os might be crashed for a problem). (My software version of MS-DOS was 4.01). Then while used from RSI Demo Maker as well. - Yomaru Kasuga 春日世丸
