If we take one lesson from Steve's plentitude of knowledge, it's that without a strong gestural foundation all of the fancy rendering is useless. Thank you Steve for sharing this wisdom.

You're right Tony! Gestures help convey movement, emotion, and overall form. It's a valuable skill for any artist.

Wonderful, Steve. This 'basic' (the gesture ) is w/o doubt a paramount skill and foundation for all good drawing, no matter what. Thanks for REPEATEDLY drumming that into your instruction videos.

Excellent advice and demonstration,Steve! Pencil layout is like the foundation of a house, the structure has to be there in the rough shape! Keep up the great work!⚡️🎯👋

Question. How many hours a day/ week does Steve study figure drawing,illustration,etc before he works on his own illustrations ,commissions and comic book pages.In other words, how is a Steve Rude work day broken down?

Glad you like them! Gesture drawing is a great way to loosen up and capture movement.

Just from observing, I see that the pitch of your drafting table allows you to move a lot more freely and draw from the shoulder, but with your experience, you're still able to commit to lines once the gesture is complete. I am going to have to try that with layouts and then maybe lower the table to render the work if necessary. I am no where near your level Master Rude, but hopefully one day I will be. Thanks for this video.

Hey @markaguzmanartist630, thanks for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that it's your favorite. We're going to be doing a video on the Loomis method this Saturday. I love the classic approach to drawing, too. As for the Nexus drawing comics, I'm always happy to hear from fans of that series. It is a special project for me, and I'm glad it continues to resonate with readers. Join our Patreon community (it's free) for the latest updates and sneak peeks if you're not there yet (www.patreon.com/steverude) Keep up the great work on your own art! Is it ok use box method for drawing figure?
@steverudethedude3 ай бұрын
The box method can be a helpful starting point, but remember to experiment with different approaches and find what works best for you.

This is reverse engineering, but for an original drawing you have to start with coming up with the gesture, which this exercise doesn't help with.
@steverudethedude3 ай бұрын
That's a great point! While this exercise is excellent for understanding and capturing dynamic poses, it's true that generating original gestures requires a different approach. Perhaps combining this technique with imagination exercises or studying real-life movement can help develop that initial spark of creativity.
