Oh, and I could not lift my Momma either. I had to have one of my children or grandchildren help, or she was a prisoner in her bed. It was so hard to explain that it felt like a lifetime in bed to her, when all it would take was 10 minutes to get in the car, and take her out, and it would make a world of difference from sitting in bed all day, every day for years.

Yes. When I do have mom in the car with me, I take a slow drive through town and next to the lagoon just so she can have a different view for a change. Blessings

Hi, Heidi! I feel very sad for you. That's a terrible decision for a daughter to have to make, especially if Mom is in her right mind. The nurses had to come a couple of times a week to change Momma's dressings. She was lucky to have the air mattress with the rotating channels. Mom came home from the hospital with bedsores on her legs and elbows I believe. Even with the fancy mattress, I still made sure to turn Momma from side to side every couple of hours. I used the big "stay dry" pad that was under her to make the turns. She could have easily gotten hurt. You learn to do things different ways after awhile. I couldn't reach over the railing on the hospital bed, so I had to put it down, and balance the weight of her body against me until the turn was complete. Any wrong move and she could have ended up on the floor, but it always worked out okay. Convalescent homes are vastly different. My uncle was in two. In one they dressed the residents and put them in wheelchairs in sight of the nurses station. In the other, patients roamed to halls on foot or in wheelchairs and could sit and work on puzzles, or play cards, or watch movies, look out at the bird feeders, or visit each other, etc. One would allow visitors almost any time of day or night, and the other had set hours for visitation. I chose to keep Momma at home, but sometimes I wonder if she may have been happier with new friends, and lots of normal stimulation, or just people her own age. I'm praying for you. Take care of yourself.

Hi there, thank you. mom sleeps 90% of the time because of the one medication they give her. she is being bathed every day and they do turn her every 4 hours. This time I am using to get my house sorted as I am moving down stairs to be close to mom. so I am sorting all my stuff out and going to be giving quite a bit of things to my niece. They are coming to visit the week end maybe .... I hope their car is big enough LOL.... Blessings
