I really hope that you like this video, I will post longer videos from here as I upload them. Finding this location and climbing was a challenge that paid off I think. It's rare that Osaka Itami uses Runway 14 for landings so I think I was lucky to get up there in time to capture these incredible landings. The pilots have great skill for these difficult approaches to the airport. We also had a crosswind so it makes it even more difficult. This video is complete with Air Traffic Control Audio (ATC). All Nippon Airways Boeing 787 Landing in a crosswind with a difficult approach. Osaka Itami airport in japanese is 伊丹空港. Like Paro

That's one of the greatest air shows I've ever seen. Even better, after going past the runway and letting the plane get blown back to the centerline, the pilot began centering the plane on the runway just before they touched down, so the passengers in the rear of the plane didn't get whiplash the moment the wheels hit the runway. That pilot is an artist, and I'm a fan.

He wasn't "blown back to the centerline." It is just a matter of camera location relative to the flight path and visual perspective that presents an illusion of left-to-right drift near the end of the approach.
@jonskunator

You are overthinking it. The perspective, field of view and optics of the camera make it look more exceptional. It still was a skilled landing but probably would not deserve the title of "one of the greatest air shows ever".

It’s nothing more than a typical crosswind landing. This can be seen at any airport that has winds that are not parallel with the runway. Which would probably be every airport on the planet.

Telephoto length not angle. The hardest thing about landing after an extended flight is changing one’s mindset from cruise thinking to descent considerations to landing considerations. Each phase demands change in thought processes. That is the real challenge for the crew.
@flyingviking2149
@flyingviking2149 4 жыл бұрын
J. Griff Griffin it’s the angle of the camera to the runway. They are no parallel. I used to work at an airport where the runway and FBO weren’t parallel either. It would mess with the minds of new students or people watching the landings as the planes on final looked like they were headed straight for the building instead of the runway. This is a normal cross wind landing with an optical illusion caused by the angles.

But you’re not supposed to land in a crab! You’re supposed to use the rudder and kick it out just before touchdown and he either ran out of rudder or didn’t care and just put a TON of side load on the main gear at touchdown. Wasn’t a very pretty landing. And he had plenty of time to line up before touchdown on that approach. If you want a more challenging and fun approach to watch videos of, take a look at anyone flying the River Visual RWY 19 in KDCA. You don’t roll out of that turn until just a few hundred feet above the ground. Much closer and lower than that one in Osaka.

So much about this video is visually deceptive. It is difficult from this distance and at this angle to understand what is happening. What's interesting is how the landing approach makes such a wide right hand turn instead of a straight ahead approach. That cross wind landing didn't look too extreme.

If you're talking about the recommended video thumbnails that partially block the screen near the end of videos, they're usually called _end cards._ The channel uploader chooses whether or not to include them. Unfortunately, they sometimes don't notice (or don't care) that the end card thumbnails block important content near the end of videos. If you're using a browser to view KZbin videos, there _are_ ways to turn off all KZbin end cards using a browser console command. Google: "turn off youtube end cards"

It's not Osaka's bigger airport, Kansai International Airport (KIX). You can tell because KIX touches the water, so this must be a smaller airport. I know Osaka has two airports, so this must be... (lemme google this haha)..... Osaka International Airport or Itami Airport (ITM). :)
