In Brain Peterson's version of the Ghost he controls the far side trapezius instead of the head to help prevent the doorstop counter (uke moving their far side arm across your body as you go under). I will have to give this head scissor version a try as it does seem to set up the Darce a little smoother but I think that doorstop counter will still be there. The Ghost is my absolute favorite side control escape, love showing it to new players!

Guess who has one stripe on his white belt and just spent his last class getting crushed in side control? ;) Very timely video sir, thank you! If you could consider doing some videos on escaping kesa gatame and reverse scarf holds that would be amazing!
@jamiewalking2 жыл бұрын
I am a Kesa Gatame specialist, weighing 240 and 6'2. You have 4 good options vs my scarf hold but they do not work for everyone. So there is one for flexible people, two for explosive people and one for people who are neither flexible nor explosive. Flexible: kip your legs up and hook them over my face and peel my weight off you, using your core, hips and legs; from here both armbars and triangles are very easy to come by. Explosive1: Grab around my floating rib and squeeze the shit out me, then spoon me like im Margot Robbie, and bridge into me with everything you have and then roll me over. Explosive2: Yank/wriggle your captured elbow to the ground, once there, I no longer have kesa gatame and you are more or less free to take my back if I try to hold on to it. Neither flexible nor explosive: sorry, the only good answer is to not let me establish scarf hold in the first place. keys here are not letting me elevate and shelf your shoulder and elbow, and not letting me secure my arm on your occiput (back of your head) by keeping your head glued to the mat. Hope this helps!

The people who are most successful at escaping my scarf hold switch from explosive1 to explosive 2 repeatedly and abruptly which overwhelming force and suddenness.

@@jamiewalking Thank you for the feedback! I'll have to give it a try. To make sure I understand, you are talking about the alternating the first two escapes from this videos right? I have been realizing that Kesa is just a miserable position to be in and you really have to work to earn your escape. I play gi primarily so the friction can make it hard to explode out but I figure using a combo will help out a lot.

In one of your vids, you showed how to do Body triangle from the back, I have been practicing it ever since on punching bags. Yesterday I won my competition at Grappling Industry in Melbourne Australia by submission because of what you taught in that vid. when I put the body triangle on my opponent, he said "Ahh..." and let his hands off his neck where I got the RNC and got Gold medal. (I was 9 points ahead btw) He told me afterward WTF was that, I thought my ribs are going to shatter!!!! I gave him your details :) and told him go and watch your stuff. My first ever competition as white belt with 1 year experience. thank you for all your vids, I think I have purchased 3 vids from your site, best money I have ever spent :)

Well, it doesn’t help with recovery. Just measures and keeps data. So it SHOWS your recovery and how your behaviors affect it.

The key to escape any hold is creating space. If you can create space, you can get out. Unfortunately, I have yet to see any BJJ person do yoko shiho gatame correctly. Including this video.

@@brandonmcninjaRoll your eyes all you want. Learn it properly from a Judoka. Reach under the head to the opposite arm and cup the armpit while pulling their arm above the 90. Can't generate much power above the 90*. Also, bury shoulder into face to force them to look away from you. This gets the head out of line with the spine and makes it hard to generate power. Put actual body weight down through the center of your opponent chest-to-chest so they can't raise up. Opposite elbow should drag and pin opponents hips into to bend their spine out of alignment....care to guess what this does? Oh, and if you want to be extra naughty get your balled up fist up under their back. It's really uncomfortable for them. Also, brace your knee closest to their hip to keep them from rotating in to you. You're welcome.
