When I was getting my ADHD diagnosis I had to do a bunch of tests to measure my short term memory, attention span and all. When we took a break I joked that the minigames reminded me of PL and the doctor wrote that down which I thought was odd She only brought it up at the end of the diagnosis process weeks later at which point she was like: «Yeah those puzzle games probably trained you to apply reasoning and focus even though your neurological system would struggle more with that than the average person" so it's entirely possible that my entire school experience would have been hell had I not been so obsessed with PL that my brain was forced to adapt and apply those skills it should have underdeveloped to real life, pretty neat

that puzzle by the lake in the theme park thats like "find a perfect five point star" will haunt me forever. the amount of anxiety the repetitive puzzle theme gave me when i struggled with it. the soul crushing INCORRECT sound effect that seems to blast into your ears louder than any other sound effect in the gave. the shame you feel when the professor tilts his hats in embarrassment that you got the puzzle wrong. traumatising. anyway, love this game its my favourite game series ever

Level 5 was such a great studio who packed every game with charm. Im really saddened to see them shut down their North America operations, and cancel the planned localization for Yokai Watch 4. Its doubtful Nintendo will purchase them as Nintendo doesnt even own Gamefreak, HAL Laboratories, or Sora Ltd. and they rarely buy studios EDIT: im very happy to see that they are back!

I've always adored the atmosphere in St Mystere, and thought it was a great start to setting up the Layton aesthetic. While Pandora's Box has always been my favourite - and the opportunity to explore a real-world Folsense would be a dream come true - I'd love to be able to explore the winding streets and attractions in St Mystere. Even between CV and PB, the artstyle got a bit more refined, so I think Curious Village gives us the most authentic view into what Hino and his team really envisioned for the series. Wish I could play it again without knowing any of the twists. Also, great to see I'm not the only one who loves the sliding puzzles too! Still do them on my phone to pass the time on my breaks at work!

Forget Universal's Super Mario Land, when do we get our own Professor Layton Theme Park? Folsense would be lots of fun to explore both on and off the you-know-what, and St. Mystere would be impressive, too, if not for just the architecture of the tower. I also think Monte D'Or's non-feasible metropolis in a desert would make a nice couple evenings.

Played through CV for the first time at the age of 21 and some of those puzzles were Hard. Ngl I ended up looking up the solutions for quite a few. But also ended up foisting the game off on my parents or siblings to have a go before I looked it up. Sometimes, my dad would work it out and then somewhat excitedly show me the solution coz “that was a pretty clever one”. Its kinda incredible how a 15 year old game can still bring ppl together like that

I remember seeing a giant display for this game at Walmart while out with my aunt, and she got a little excited telling me about it (I would've been just turning 9 and she would've just recently turned 17) and I actually got the impression it was the latest in an ongoing series I got the game for Easter, and my aunt ended up playing with me a lot when babysitting me and my sister (5), and I also vividly remember bringing my DS to play during my sister's dance class and letting my mom play during my class (Mom said she wasn't interested, but then showed me the paper she'd been using to work through the puzzles after i finished my class) This series honestly still means a lot to me, and I'm forever amazed and grateful for how well it's thrived (even if i still get blank stares when mentioning it to people)

I would argue this was the best puzzle game made, we loved this game as kids. We could only afford one copy so we used to share this one copy we had, round the family, giving it to my cousins or auntie etc for a month then sharing it with someone else and we all loved it, I have the best memories playing professor Layton with my cousins and sharing it with the rest of our family 😊😊

Knowing that I wasn't talking to real people really took me to some kind of uncanny valley where the town seemed much eerier than before. However, it's almost nothing compared to what I felt after finishing The Diabolical Box. I mean, at least Saint Mystère really exists the way we see it! ;)

I've played this game so much as a kid that even now that i'm in my twenties i still remember some of the puzzles. Replaying the game is always fun, and having learned the answers to the first puzzles by force of habit doesn't take away the challenging aspect of them. Waiting to one day go "This reminds me of a puzzle" just like the professor!

My first one was The Lost Future because the Ads looked great! But i was also 8 years old at release so to say the game was too difficult was an understatement. Instead I'd play it together with my older sister, sometimes asking our mother for help. She does those mental puzzles along with crossword puzzles everyday for hours but even she was often stumped. I remember that a Puzzle around a key in someone's office stopped me from finishing it. 4 years later i finished it with a walktrough and still cried. A few days ago i homebrewed my 3DS and have started playing through all the games by release order! I hear the puzzle solving music in my ears even when I'm noz playing

I remember when I first got the game, I was 10 years old and got it for Christmas. I was so into it that I played it non-stop and finished it in three days, my love for the Professor Layton serie was born on that Christmas of 2007. I played all games, finished them all in 3 days to 1 week (coughAzranLegacycough), I recently got myself a new 3ds and bought Curious Village again, finished it in 9.FREAKING.HOURS 😂, replayed Miracle Mask (my fav after Pandora's Box) and finished that one in 17 hours a a half.

Heard of Professor Layton and the love for the series, but I wouldn't be able to play it until the original trilogy were ported to mobile. I got to play "Mystery Room" prior. All of them left an impression, and I understandably had an appreciation for all four games (including MR) from the characters to stories and music. Gameplay too. Hope "Professor Layton and the New World of Steam" does get released eventually, and they shutting down their North American office won't spell trouble for more future titles. Although, Level-5 may have an upcoming event on November 29th, so let's see.

I'm a newer person to the franchise(Found it on February 28th, with a channel covering the AA crossover), and I may not have known these games during my childhood, but it's just so good to see someone else cover them on present times! I really fell in love with this game series. I was in my early 20s when I got my pink DS lite and this game just scratched an itch for me. Between these, Ace Attorney and Pokemon, I was never bored for a moment. I adored that thing. I recently got the first trilogy for my Samsung tablet- they redid them in HD for mobile a while ago I guess. I got Katrielle first and while it’s better on mobile than Switch it still isn’t good. The first 2 trilogies are just something else. I loved the 3ds games and can’t believe what the physicals are reselling for now. Thank god for cfw.

Most PL games have roughly around 150-160 puzzles in game (plus an additional 15 from the special puzzles in the bonus section from completing every minigame + all puzzles) so that's neat! The game also has roughly 250 - 300 hint coins depending on what game you're playing ehe yes I've done completion runs and probably played the game far too many times, the puzzles haunt me in my sleep I tell ya but I cannot for the life of me let the franchise go cause I absolutely love the story lines and the music T T worth it, it was basically my childhood until now

I have a homebrewed 3ds and, Lets just say I Got myself every game in the series. All 4 ds games and the 2 3ds titles (i dont count layton x ace attorney to be a layton game. also i dont count the switch title to be a proper layton game) My first ever professor layton was curious village. I remember seeing gameplay ina n ad or something and me as a person who loves riddles wanted that game. Second game I had was Lost future/unwound future. I got decently far in both games but never completed any of the games. Today I decided to stsrt playing all professor layton games in launch order. meaning going from village to box to future to mask (already started mask) and lastly the azran legacy. To cut it short, once I booted village, The title screen got me smiling wide from nostalgia. Disnt expect that some riddles (and very interesting stories) can be so nostalgic 10+ years into the future. the games truly are all in themselves great and no one lacks in story or bad riddles. Yes you guys can argue in the comment section under this comment hoe this and thst mainline game is bad but for me, I lpve riddles and how they are inplemented in the story. And oh my god, I dont know any game with sucj interesting stories that get you invested. So, For me pf layton is an (almost) perfect genre. What I dont need tho is these pesky minigames, Indont wanna waste my time solving car riddles for hours. Minigames are the only thing I hate about the games tho.

Hi, math teacher here! Funny story: my first teaching experience was in a high school leadership class when I was in grade 10 and each student had to teach for a day, and I "recycled" a bunch of puzzles from this game as a lesson on critical thinking. Also, just wanted to comment on your point about not caring about the edutainment part of this game because you were immersed in the rest of it. This is a thing I try to utilize in my classroom, giving students mysteries/puzzles related to the topic so they learn the content without me having to lecture about it. For example, if I'm teaching exponent laws, I will usually teach how multiplying and dividing terms will add/subtract the exponent respectively, and then give students time to work in groups and try to figure out the mystery of why x^0 = 1 for any x. Other times, I give out a set of "thinking" problems that incorporate math into the solution but aren't really math problems. How many ways there are to win at 3D tic-tac-toe for example. I find that the best learning happens when students figure things out for themselves, so the key is to make the learning part of getting to a goal. Great video, will enjoy watching the rest!

Really really huge thank you for this video and the Tragic Tale of Professor Layton video. I love the series and am so so so sad that the last game (Katrielle's Mystery Journey) turned out as it was (Although the last chapter blew my whole mind but the rest is just... You know what I mean...). This video here was filled with nice and great humour and showed me some cool new things about the game and let me feel strong emotions during the part where you talked about the end of the game where the music, you know what I mean, plays and Hersh and Flora build the paraglider. I am so nostalgic for the series - I guess too nostalgic - but it just feels right to be so because the games are masterpieces. Thank you for your passion for the series and both videos. I really hope you will make more videos about the other games of the main story and maybe the movie and the spin-off because - come on - it would be a high quality throwback to my childhood. i already made a comment, but wanted to add I didnt have a computer at the time, and I YEARNED to go to my grandparents so i could use their computer to help me with puzzles. and that was at the time where i absolutely would not look up walkthroughs. i would print off pages to take home *just in case* but id usually ask adults for hints so i could save my coins.

pandoras box was my second nintendo (ds) game i robbed together with the console from my mom cus she never played it. i LOVED it as a 12 year old and its my childhood, i plan on buying every main game series games someday

I don't remember how or when I got PL but I was obsessed. Of course I didn't always solve the puzzles but I felt very proud when I did. Also it's low-key the reason I am pretty ok with escape rooms now
