The only difference here though is that Godot killed to protect Maya, whereas here, the guilty party did it to finish off the supposed "Great Witch" and bring the Witch Trails to an end. The only problem with that though (or at least at the time I'm writing this since I'm watching the playthrough and commenting as I watch it) is that there is no guarantee that "Magic" is going to disappear if the Great Witch is burned, nor do we know if Espella is actually the Great Witch. Again, this will probably get revealed towards the end, but where things stand, Godot's conviction is still pretty tragic. ... Also just to clarify though, it isn't like I'm saying, "She deserved to burn!" and if anything, her getting burned alive pretty much sets it up that this game is much more than another Phoenix Wright game. Kudos to the writers for having the balls to literally outright kill "BURN the witch alive!" while everyone else watches in horror. It is tragic, but it has little difference from all the other times we see this happen except for the sudden shock value of the Sudden Execution.

I must admit, compared to the rest of the voice acting I've had the pleasure of hearing, that of Kira's is excellent to say the least. Almost a joy to listen to among the sometimes cringeworthy voice acting one may percieve in the game. That is of course without saying the other voice actors also have their moments. And to be quite fair, Layton and Barnham are also quite a treat to listen to.

Well, ignoring these incredibly dark responses, I did notice all the flower petals flying all over the place before Kira was in the cage xD I took that as a substitution- Pablo Yan said because you don't feel any joy, but that was before Phoenix and Layton learned the price of proving Espella innocent: they didn't know execution was part of the deal at the time. Thus, the flower petals might have been an attempt to trick the viewer into thinking it would be like a normal Phoenix Wright court case

I am aware, but that doesn't really change anything. That would mean phoenix deals with this BEFORE any of the "dark law" trials take place (see what I did there :P.) However, I have seen future episodes, and other than this isn't really canon, I can see why Phoenix wouldn't bring this up.

But this is inside a story book, by default it is an alternate universe. Proof of this is the fact that magic exists, when it has never existed in either the Layton or Ace Attorney series. So far, the _only_ supernatural thing that has ever been real within the Ace Attorney series is Maya and Pearl's ability to channel other spirits and the Psyche Locks, but that's all. Every other apparently "supernatural" occurrence has been shot down with a logical explanation. Since this is inside an alternate universe, it therefore takes place in another world with its own history, and therefore is not part of the history of the Ace Attorney series. So Phoenix did not experience the Dark Age of his world, but another. EDIT: Saw your last reply. Actually it does change a lot. It confirms that they're in a fantasy setting, and that none of that really happened. So Phoenix still did not experience the "Dark Age of the Law." If the Storyteller was writing word-by-word events of the Middle Ages, that would be a different story.

I'm struggling to comprehend Wright's reaction here. Just what did he think was going to happen? Slap on the wrist? What about all those "Witnesses" throughout his career who he implicated of murder in the process of his defense? Maybe he thought most of them got sent to counseling, where they all sit around a table for chitchat and afternoon tea? Give me a break.

That's definitely one way to put it. Granted though this could very well be seen as one of the many things that he didn't know about "this world," one of which being that the guilty party gets executed the moment the verdict is passed (even though he literally see this happen the moment he steps into court.)

They got arresteted and had a proper trial themselves where a fair verdict was passed down. Also who's to say they all got the death penalty? I'd say there's one hell of a difference. I get your point in that he saw what happened to the girl when they walked in so he should have been more prepared but still not quite the same I'd say.

Other games have shown deaths and got away with it. As long as the deaths aren't graphic, they can get away with it. And these aren't. Sure, they're brutal and traumatizing, but you don't see them burn, just the fire. I'm speculating it's gonna be rated Teen

Yeah this game holds a LARGE contradiction if you think about the Ace Attorney timeline. In this video phoenix says "(So far we've always managed to pull off a win and get a "not guilty" verdict, but...)" yet later Maya says multiple times "Zvarri". These 2 things contradict eachothers place on the timeline because... *SPOILER* *SPOILER* The first time Maya ever heard the word "Zvarri" and started using it was case 2 of Trials and Tribulations. At this point Case 5 of Justice For All already happened and as we all know in that case Phoenix gets a guilty verdict for his client. Its possible for you to get a not guilty verdict but in that ending phoenix cannot face Maya ever again as the "Miracle never happen"

Arceus, that was awful! She didn't even do anything bad before she killed those two goons. All she wanted to do was end those horrific trials! It-it's terrible! Usually I feel so happy when Phoenix wins, but here I am feeling absolutely terrible for Kira! But why? Why must they be killed? They never had a choice to be born with such powers! Why are they to blame? *sighs* I hope this is resolved by the end.
