I noticed someone in the chat saying that a hiring manager told them to run out and get a whole bunch of certs including a few Microsoft certs that I believe have been discontinued or are about to reach their end of life. I'm just an IT student currently but I'm pretty sure if a hiring manager is telling you that you need all these certs just for an entry level help desk job then you should look elsewhere, it may be a bad sign. You don't need a whole bunch to start out. If you get the A+ that should be enough, along with a well-written resume and a willingness to hit the pavement, so to speak. The A+ by itself is hard enough to get. Lots of people fail multiple times before finally passing. So if you can pass - and you can if you study and do home labs - you are qualified for that first job. Don't let anyone, even a hiring manager, tell you otherwise.

You mean I don't need 9 years of IT work history as well as 3 different tech certificates instead of an IT associates/bachelors in order to get my entry level IT position?

Professor, I graduated with a cyber security certificate last May. I still haven't been able to land a job. I need guidance on the best way to get the A+ certification. Can you help?

What are you trying to do in cybersecurity? Generally speaking, most cybersecurity positions are considered advanced in the field of information technology. It takes a very broad range of information topics, while being very technical in each. I understand that there are paper pushing office jobs that are considered "cybersecurity" positions, but I don't consider them true cybersecurity positions. To me, cybersecurity is red and blue teaming. It is computer forensics, equal parts problem solving, IT, and programming. To ask "how do I become qualified for cybersecurity" will get you a similar response as to "how do I become a hacker" because in order to protect a company from hackers you have to essentially be one. It's why most people consider the baseline for cybersecurity to be A+, Net+, Sec+, and Certified Ethical Hacker (which is a Department of Defense requirement to be employed in a cybersecurity position in the US government). My advice? If your certs/degree aren't cutting it, then you'll need to either get more relevant certs, or show the employers you have practical experience. Practical experience in this field is hard to come by, and usually is "proven" by competing in CtFs, helping with open source projects related to security on GitHub, or doing HacktheBox and similar challenges.
