Snape in the movie and Snape in the books are two different species altogether. Can't understand how ppl like an overgrown bully who gets off by humiliating 11 years old children for something that happened before they were even born and unaware of. - "After all this time?" - "Always" BS, he was a petty, disgraceful and immature lump of greasy hairs. Even the actor wanted out of this character after the second movie because of the sheer idiocity of Snape, he remained after JKR told him of the so called "redemption arc", BS redemption arc in my opinion which does nothing to excuse the years of abuse he layed at the feet of an already physically and emotionally abused orphan who knew nothing of the magical world or the history of his parents.

I think the people who are obsessed with Snape saw the movie before reading the book. Movie Snape, as you said, is a different species than book Snape. Movie Snape is mysterious and complicated. Book Snape is an asshole.
