Great video! So useful and thought-provoking. Perhaps after the Great War, Nick realises the value of life and appreciates the luck of his survival. He wants to make something of himself and live the American Dream creating a life of his own away from the luxury of his well to do family. This idea is perpetuated by his choice of a small house in the less fashionable of the two Eggs despite his father's financial contribution. He may not be starting from nothing but he wants to feel he deserves wealth once he has earned it.

Hi! Great videos! I was wondering... Do you think that the idea that Nick went to WWI (you mentioned it doesn't seem to play a big role), when his uncle had sent a replacement to the Civil War, and his journey from the ragged edge of the universe to go east, could show that Nick was trying to forge his own path and not rely on family money, thus creating his own perspective of the American Dream?

Do you think that his escape could be from his broken engagement and to try to find something that feels good? I think It goes hand and hand with my theory of his sexuality and his infatuation with gatsby?

Because Nick has a privoledged background and the prestige of the careless people because of his past yet no wealth at hand Gatzby is the opposite......
