What's a formylation? The introduction of a formyl group, of course. This refers to a way to make aldehydes. The Vilsmeier reaction is one such method, developed in 1927. Let's get a look at this reaction, its mechanism, and the Vilsmeier reagent itself, which continues to have new, exciting applications in synthetic chemistry.

Dave great channel. When a flat earther tells me that water always finds its level but then moves on to give sea level as the example. How can i respond or demonstrate the water conforming to the earth. If i test on a local or small scale it will always appear level so at what point would a body of water start deviate from being perceptually flat. A good answer to this would stop a lot if nonsense by flat earthers but as a non scientist am struggling. Keep up the good work!
