I had my first colonoscopy a few years back and I did it without sedatives. It was very uncomfortable and at times quite painful but I did get to watch it on the monitor. Pretty interesting ... especially the little bit at the end where the appendix is had a good-sized polyp that had to be pulled out. He cut it with a really hot blade so there was no bleeding then put a kind of net around the polyp and pulled it out. It looked like a little brain. Explains a lot!
@Tsumami__3 жыл бұрын
So...men grow tiny brains in their poop chutes?
@abercrombieblovs20423 жыл бұрын
@@Tsumami__ No... not exactly. Polyps are simply small bits of flesh that are genetic accidents - mistakes in DNA that caused cellular growth where there shouldn't have been any. Look down at the pads on your fingertips. They're vaguely dome-shaped around the bone, and are rather thick-skinned. Now imagine that one of those pads randomly grew on your palm. It would feel weird, like a little bump, but harmless. Just skin. Inside a digestive organ, however... A lot of food would pass by and rub against it, and cause pain. TL;DR, not a brain in any way, although it might bear a resemblance. Also, why would this be a male-restricted trait, exactly? XD

Its pretty crazy. I’m not religious in any way but the sheer complexity of it and almost beautifully elegant design makes it hard to believe it wasn’t created by some form of intelligence.
@Mikri903 жыл бұрын
That's hardly elegant. I'd say it's quite messy. Complex organisms are, well, very complex, to a point that it is difficult to argue they are a result of design. Simplicity is hallmark of (good) design, and the goal of good design is to keep it as simple as possible. There are also quite a few of or "mistakes" in various animals, including humans of course, where it is evident that if it were designed it ought to have been designed better. We can even witness it in this very video, because we can see that the epiglottis has to block the larynx otherwise we can suffocate. And it does happen. So some of the most basic functions (eating and breathing) can cause death because the systems are shared between different bodily functions. Some other animals have the systems completely separate. Needless to say, if humans were designed, that would have to have been designed in a better way.

Prof. Dave ... I recently had a medical issue where I passed out going face first into my bathroom floor brought on by pushing to hard while on the toilet. Broke my nose, several micro fractures in my neck, and a right hand pointer finger that still hurts when I flex it, yet it is not broken. I had never heard of this vasovagal vein before. But I was wondering if you could do a video on vasovagal syncope in such a way that I can fully understand what it was that gave me a three night stay at a local hospital. Like, what caused me to pass out within 5 seconds or what exactly causes the aggravation? I have researched it, but nothing I have found truly gives a good visual explanation. From a reading perspective, I understand. But I can't help but feel a good visual presentation could help me here. And your work I trust.

I've only done a small amount of research on this topic in my time but from my understanding the way your heart beats and/or your circulation/muscles somewhat change during a bowel movement and if you strain too hard while doing so you can cause an event that basically drops your blood pressure super low hence why you can end up passing out.
