Whew! I was about to say, any reaction that leaves hydrazine in a highly unstable condition is bound to end poorly for the chemist. Great video, Professor Dave. I never was much of a chemist, but I sure do enjoy these explanations.

Dave I just want to thank you. It was because of watching your videos for the past few years that I was able to make it through highschool science. You know more than most that science is important for the development of society. If more people were scientifically literate the world would be a more rational place. A rational world is a safer world. I've watched your videos on Dr.Tour and have watched videos of Dr. Tour challenging you to a debate/discussion. I believe you should accept. Normal people like Kent Hovind and Ken Ham have the potential to make thousands stray away from reason and embrace delusion. Think about how many people would remain this way if a chemist decided to spread these kinds of ideas as well. In the discussion, they may try to embarrass you, degrade your qualifications and such. But you know enough science to critique Dr. Tour and have a channel dedicated to science communication. Therefore I believe you can lay down some important points during a debate. Even if you don't "win" ur debate with Dr. Tour, the video will bring the attention of qualified people to react to the video and take your side. Thanks for everything.

That was a bluff. He was grandstanding for his idiot followers. And there is no point in an interaction. His credibility is in ruins.

Great video Dave. Surprised you didn't mention the possibilities of the microwave-assisted Wolff-Kishner when discussing the need for milder conditions. I haven't done enough reading on it yet to say whether I think it's the best way to go, but this paper outlines it for teaching undergraduates and they just use a conventional microwave which is pretty cool. Respected sir, IS A photon of violet light is brighter than A photon of red light...what does brightness depends on?? Amplitude or energy?? Thank you sir
@ProfessorDaveExplains3 жыл бұрын
Photons are not brighter than one another, brightness has to do with the intensity of a light source.

Yeah, I guess 1.6M people weren't all studying the Wolff-Kishner reduction this week. Go figure.

Professor Dave has a very diverse audience because his videos are very diverse. Most of his subscribers are viewers of his pseudoscience debunking videos but he has a wide array of viewers that watch him for instruction in chemistry, physics, biology, etc. and these groups don't often overlap which is why his purely educational videos typically don't have many views. Probably 90% or more of the views on this video are organic chemistry students, which make up a small minority of his viewers.
