Unfactored here. This is really very basic stuff for architects, so I don’t really delve in to load factors, and design by allowable stress only.

What is a kips is it a kilo pascal?

Sorry, just noticed this comment. A kip is a US customary unit with a metric multiplier. It's shorthand for "KiloPound" or 1000 pounds. A kilopascal on the other hand is a measure of stress, not force. When you see "kip" just think 1000 pounds. It's an odd unit, but has been in use for more than a century.
