Great explanation of Earth pressure on a cantilever wall, we also build retaing walls like this.

I think the active pressure at ‘J’ on the excavated side is 120x(D)x0.33=40x(D) not 36.9x(D)

Hello, when we aere calculating Pj and Pe why you consider D infact the pressure should only be consider for the soil above the point of rotation and below the point of rotation.

Thank you very much for the video.I have a question please, the pressure at any height from top is P=gama*Ka*h but at the bottom is P=(gama*Ka*h^2)/2. The only thing I can think of about the h^2 is because it's at the bottom. Is it correct? and how about the 1/2? where is it from?

How do you compute for d ?
@rangiwoods11 жыл бұрын
Some Pa formulae I've seen is Pa = unitweight * Ka * H^2. note the H^2. I noticed you dont square your height. If we compute the units (metric) using your formula we get kN/m3 * m = kN/m^2, whereas when you square H you get kN/m3 * m2 = kN/m. Which is the correct equation to use and why would we square H? Great videos by the way, I'm starting off as a civil engineer and its good to learn off videos like this.

The imperial system really bugs me. Great video, and thank you for it, but, could you use the same system the rest of the world uses: metric ? Thanks you.

Do you think he chooses what unit system the entire united states uses? I know mostly everyone uses metric but come on lol its just a unit conversion...
