Moriarty the Patriot is a new release that draws some apt comparisons to Psycho-Pass, with a few Death Note elements as well. I don't think these are 1:1 comparisons by any means, but they do give a good feel for what Moriarty the Patriot is like. Moriarty the Patriot follows three brothers who together form the persona of the crime lord Moriarty, a mysterious figure who targets corrupt nobility to serve the common man, with the eventual goal of toppling the concept all together. However, one man may stand in their way. A little known name: Sherlock Holmes. In his attempt to stop them however, he becomes friends with the very men he's trying to stop...

Hey everyone, I wanted to put a slight correction in here. I said in the video season one was the first 13 episodes, and that season two was airing now; however it's listed as one season on many services and sources. The full number of episodes has also shifted on many of them, so the phrasing of two seasons may be incorrect, however I'm not entirely sure. Just a quick update on that possible error!

1:12 actually it was more than two cases as the manga referenced a period of time took place between "A Study In 'S' " and "The Two Detectives" but the anime didn't show the passage of time as well as the manga did, also the anime cut a scene from the manga where at the end of A Study in S, Sherlock reluctantly wears the iconic deerstalker and coat while meeting the press (the whole thing was Watson's idea).
@ProfessorViral

Yeah, I should have worded that better since he canonically solves more cases, but we don't get to see them directly. I'm actually a Sherlock rookie, so I don't know anything about the source material, but after a google search that would have been interesting to see haha

As someone who binge read as much of the translated manga as I could find before I binge watched the anime, I think a lot of the problems you mentioned about pacing and tonal changes aren't as bad in the manga. I love the anime and it is by no means a bad adaptation of the manga, if anything it is pretty spot-on, but I think the rushed pacing mostly comes from the fact that the anime clearly wanted to be able to have Sherlock all set up and ready by the end of season 1. For anyone who is interested, I would definitely suggest checking out the manga as well because it gives a bit more time with the rest of Moriarty's group and helps to understand them all a little better. btw Your point about Moriarty not changing much was really cool! His character was so cemented in my head I didn't even really notice the significance of him staying the same, but it definitely is a good point to make.

It's good to see the adaptation is at least true, even if there's a slight hurry or lack for some of the side characters. I appreciate the insight, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! : D

honestly, if you want to search for the best adaptation of this, I recommend watching the musical stage, lolz. Like, believe it or not, it has the balance of both the completeness of the manga and also the expression of the anime. The greatest example would be the characterization of Sherlock Holmes. Like, in the anime there are some precious Sherlock moments that got deleted even though they showed his true characters, like his random deductions, or his interaction with other characters except John & William. While the manga, despite being the original material, is stuck with the limitation of a book, which is unable to show just how clear a character's body language, expression, etc, etc. More often than not, Sherlock's deduction is only shown through panels of the evidence, suspect, method of killing, etc, rather than Sherlock himself. But in the Musical, you could see the precious moment of Sherlock just solving the mysteries in rapid fire, with the happiness of a child getting a new toy, his torn feelings of capturing the Lord of Crimes, and many more. Also, the great music & songs are definitely an extra plus~

it makes me so sad that this anime is still so unknown and underrated. it's one of my favorites now. so freaking good, it gripped me from the first episode (and honestly the tension between liam and sherlock is **chefs kiss** just a nice little addition, probably pretty inconsequential to most others, but just made me love it more haha). i always try to recommend it to the bigger anime reaction channels in hopes that it will get more love :')

Aaahh I'm glad you made vid on this anime. So I kinda picked this up when it had about 8 episodes and kinda watched about 3 to 4 of em until I felt that there wasn't a lot of substance. I wasn't interested in a kinda good guy who was bad but was the mc who wanted some form of justice. But 27 seconds in, you've convinced me that I should check it out saying that the tone changes quite a bit around the halfway point, I'm pretty excited. The original Sherlock Holmes novel was my first ever full length novel so I hope the anime takes a cool spin on it!

My son and I watch a lot of Anime, so I'll be subscribing to your channel to get a different outlook on anime and to learn about new and different Anime as well. My question to you is: Have you ever read the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle books about Sherlock? I did not, but my father had when he was alive, and we discussed much of them. The Anime actually follows the Sherlock character pretty well. Not Moriarty however. At least in the fact that there was usually only One Moriarty in the book. Back to my point (lol) .. Sherlock was a selfish prick in appearances. Watson was the one to know him fully, and knew that Sherlock would act that way around people to throw them off. It would (in Victorian era England) really throw off most people in society. And this way too, he could always disguise himself and get more information. And his disguising wasn't just outward change that way. When my son and I were watching this series we guessed he was doing the same thing more or less. And in the books it was clear that human death affected him deeply, but he would act like it was nothing so that he wouldn't be showing that pain and instead acted blasé. Mycroft and he however had a really nasty sibling rivalry. Man they were *hits to one another. Except when it came to their country, then they were "thick as theives". Really odd way of thinking back in the Victorian Era. lol

Thanks for sticking around, it's nice to see a father and son enjoying anime together! I've never read the books personally, so I was going purely off the anime. But, if they stick to being true to the books like you said, and start to show some cracks to behind his persona even more, I'm more excited for the rest of this anime! It sounds like he'll be quite the interesting character to watch!
